What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kindergarten Teacher position at Belmont Day School?
We are seeking a resourceful, innovative, and nurturing kindergarten teacher to work in a co-teaching model with 24-26 students in a vibrant kindergarten classroom beginning the end of August 2025. This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit-eligible position. It is a ten-month position and reports to the lower school head. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored relocation.
We offer competitive salary and benefits, and a compensation strategy that prioritizes pay equity for faculty with similar years of teaching experience and relevant advanced degrees. Based on the minimum years of experience required for this role, the salary range for this position is $66,700 to $99,150 for twenty years of prior teaching experience.
Responsibilities
- Possess and utilize knowledge of best practices in early childhood development to plan and execute engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment and learning community that integrates diversity, equity, and inclusion pedagogy with early childhood teaching and fosters authentic parent engagement.
- Build authentic relationships with children and ensure that students are known and valued as members of the classroom community.
- Utilize observation and documentation to assess and monitor growth in all curriculum areas, particularly language development, math, early literacy skills, and social-emotional skills.
- Provide developmentally appropriate instruction and assessment in all curriculum areas, particularly reading, writing, and science.
- Provide an appropriate balance between academics and play-based learning.
- Differentiate instruction and create a responsive curriculum to meet the individual needs of all students and support foundational skills.
- Communicate sensitively, regularly, clearly, and honestly with parents informally and formally through conferences and semester progress reports.
- Contribute to and benefit from collaborating with colleagues, including but not limited to partnering with a co-teacher on the set-up of a shared classroom space, curriculum development, and parent communication to provide a consistent experience for both kindergarten cohorts.
- Incorporate technology in the classroom in a meaningful and developmentally appropriate way.
- Participate enthusiastically in all aspects of an excellent school, which could include serving as an associate teacher mentor, Capstone mentor, and/or middle school athletics coach.

Competencies
- Possess knowledge of kindergarteners and their developmental progression.
- Infuse diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice concepts and themes into academic and social-emotional curricula and use these to inform teaching, classroom management, and parent relationships.
- Possess a thorough understanding of instructional practices in early childhood skill development.
- Develop, adapt, and differentiate the curriculum in multiple subject areas.
- Establish and maintain strong home-school partnerships with families to ensure student success.
- Strong collegial and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience teaching early childhood students in a school setting is required; experience teaching in a co-teaching model is preferred.
- Training and/or experience with Fundations, Singapore Math, Responsive Classroom, and equity, inclusion, and belonging work preferred
