What are the responsibilities and job description for the Belmonte Upper Elementary Interim Assistant Principal position at Belmonte Steam Academy?
Statement of Duties:
• Serves as a support to the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
• Provides instructional leadership and supervision of staff.
• Works with the building administrative team to create an optimum learning climate for all students that promotes positive student interactions, learning, and quality curriculum via PBIS.
Team with principal and staff to create a positive school culture, the true goal of PBIS.
Works under the supervision of the Principal to build capacity in educators, families and students to develop STEAM competencies
• Supervises and evaluates teachers and support staff according to performance standards.
• Implements effective discipline and security policies.
• Assists the Principal in the preparation of all mandated state and federal reports.
• Prepares and/or assists in preparation of state and federal grants and reports.
• Works with counselors and nurses to facilitate re-entry meetings.
• Provides leadership in developing support systems for students such as conflict mediation, teacher/student support teams, and mentors – to minimize disruptive student behavior.
• Works with parents and students on problems related to behavior and attendance..
• Participates in the staff selection process.
• Assists the Principal in professional development, curriculum instruction, and student assessment.
• Supervises school functions.
• Assists in the coordination of orientation programs as requested.
• Works with the community, government agencies, and courts on student related problems.
• Maintains accurate disciplinary records and monitors the progress of individual student behavior.
• Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
• Assists in the development and implementation of school policies.
• Participates, whenever necessary, in team meetings, and individual or group conferences related to student programming and placement.
• Implements designed practices to maintain safe, healthful school facilities.

• Assists in the development of the master schedules and student and teacher schedules in collaboration with counselors and curriculum supervisors.
• Works the requisite hours needed to meet the responsibilities of the aforementioned job description and be responsible for other instructional and general duties as indicated by the directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of the Saugus School Committee.
• Performs other necessary duties assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications:
• Licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Principal/Assistant Principal in Massachusetts (PK-6).
• Minimum of a Master’s Degree with graduate work in educational leadership to include, curriculum development, supervision, budget, evaluation and assessment.
• Can demonstrate a minimum of three (3) years successful experience as a teacher.
• Demonstrated experience as an administrator preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority: Directly responsible to the Principal for matters pertaining to the building and to the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees.
