Belstra Milling Company, a family-owned company located in DeMotte, Indiana is currently seeking a full-time Safety Manager for the Belstra organization, which includes facets such as feed manufacturing, transport, feed plant and pig farm maintenance, farm retail store, and pig production facilities. The Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing safety programs, ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment. Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following list):
- Work closely with other personnel in operations and leadership
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- Provide technical safety and health support and information to organization as required
- Regularly performs safety audits of personnel, equipment, materials, and procedures to identify
- Ensure safety equipment and supplies (e.g., first-aid kits/supplies, PPE) are readily available, maintained and in good condition at all locations
- Organize and deliver safety training on various topics @ multiple sites and collaborate closely with HR for onboarding safety.
- Develop, implement and update safety procedures/policies for the benefit of employees and animals
- Develop/conduct safety training programs based on evaluations, assessments, regulations, etc.
- Lead injury or incident investigations
- Experience and learn duties and activities involved with pig production, feed manufacturing, transportation and other areas of business
- Maintain various safety records
- Promote a culture of safety within Belstra and encourage employees to actively participate in the safety program.
- Adherence to farm bio-security measures and animal welfare
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequent need to talk, listen, stand, walk, reach, balance, climb, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and at times work in dusty environments or with exposure to outside elements
- Some evening or early morning work may be required for inspections or safety training.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma required – B.S. or A.S. degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or related field preferred
- Use of Microsoft Office – PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Problem Solving/Analysis
- 2 years’ experience in the safety and agricultural industry preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of federal and state occupational safety and health regulations including agriculture
- Certification in safety management (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour, First Aid, CPR) preferred
- Valid drivers’ license, as some regional travel in company vehicle is required
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Bilingual skills preferred, but not required
