- Collaborate with special education leadership team, school principals, teachers, and other staff members to ensure that Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are effectively implemented and monitored for students with disabilities.
- Support maximum integration of special education students into general education by working in tandem with special education and general education staff on inclusive district practices and procedures.
- Supervise and evaluate the existing Special Education program, e.g. facilities, curriculum, learning activities, materials, supplies, teachers, teacher instruction, related service providers and provisions of related services.
- Collaboratively implement and support long term department plans and follow a continuous improvement model for special education services in District 100 in alignment with the D100 Strategic Plan.
- In collaboration with the Special Education leadership team, supervise curriculum and program planning for special education. In coordination with other administrative personnel, approve all supplies, materials and texts used by Special Education staff based on evidence-based practices established by the department.
- Collaboratively plan for, monitor, and provide preservice and in-service training and professional learning for teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals and administrators to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting students with disabilities.
- Follow and support established Child Find processes and procedures in District 100.
- Support tracking of student enrollment/caseloads on a regular basis. Collaboratively monitor programming and service needs for students with IEPs to include determination of increased allocation needs when necessary.
- Monitor class lists and deviation requests and proceedings established by the department.
- Support planning and administering the special education budget in collaboration with the Chief Special Education Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
- Provide training to staff with ongoing updates based on federal and state regulations (ie. 504 training, FBA/BIPs, inclusion, etc.)
- Follow and improve procedures to maintain complete temporary records for all children evaluated and/or receiving Special Education services.
- Support compiling, filing and maintaining all Special Education reports and grants as required.
- Maintain a permanent inventory of special education equipment.
- Keep current with literature, new research, evidence-based findings and improved techniques in Special Education.
- Attend all regular and special meetings of the Board of Education when requested. Support interpreting the objectives of programs and various recommendations of the Special Education department to the Board, administration, staff and public.
- Assist in preparing reports and data necessary for the reimbursement of personnel funds.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection and recommendation of employment for Special Education personnel.
- Collaborate and arrange with private/public therapeutic schools and/or other agencies for the education of those students with disabilities who cannot be served adequately within District 100.
- Support the evaluation process of special education staff in cooperation with building administration.
- Assist with the review and development of services for special education students and staff provided by outside agencies and attend regular meetings regarding those services.
- Support and/or facilitate complex IEP meetings, including potential mediations, state complaints and due process requests and proceedings.
- Support State and District assessments and their implementation, and provide related professional development, as required of special education students.
- Perform other related duties as they may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications/Skills:
Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) months
Basic Function: Under the direct supervision of the Chief Special Education Officer, the Director of Special Education is responsible for ensuring that all federal and state regulations related to special education are implemented by assisting administrators and IEP teams within the schools to ensure that appropriate educational and related services are delivered to all identified students. The Director of Special Education is responsible for providing leadership to D100 staff in relation to special education, 504 compliance, and best instructional and data driven practices established by the department to enhance student growth.
