Benchmark Automation is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to lead a team of Mechanical Engineers who design packaging machinery and product handling equipment. The candidate must perform the functions of a Senior Mechanical Engineer as well as provide leadership for the team
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Provide design engineering leadership support and oversight for all engineering projects.
- Leading the team to timeliness and accuracy of engineering releases that enable manufacturing to complete orders in an orderly and timely manner.
- Monitor designs for cost verses budget, quality design, and compliance with applicable standards and processes.
- Ensuring mechanical engineering team commitments to Controls Engineering, Project Management, Sales, Aftermarket, and Manufacturing departments are met as expected.
- Ensuring that project documentation, e.g. project reports, drawings, and timesheets are regularly reported, correct, and complete.
- Leading research and development projects on occasion that produce new designs, products and processes.
- Assign projects to the mechanical engineering team as appropriate based on skill levels and scheduling constraints.
- Establish standards for drawings, component selection, and ensure that members of the team follow them.
- Establish training plans for individuals in the team.
- Perform annual performance reviews for members of the team.
- Participate in applications reviews to ensure viability of concepts during the proposal phase.
- Assist in startup and debug as required both at Benchmark and at the client facility.
- Ensure the operator manuals are completed in a timely manner.
- Travel up to 25%.
Who we are looking for.
- A Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent from a four-year college or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience with food handling machinery, sanitary design, and USDA compliance.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience conceiving, designing, and developing mechanical engineering solutions in an OEM environment.
- Leadership experience or proven leadership qualities.
- Experience with machine design using 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience with linkages, cams, rotary and linear indexing mechanisms, servo motion, VFD motors, gearboxes, pneumatic and electric actuators.
- Experience integrating multiple machines to create small to complex packaging systems.
- Capable with computer software applications including MS Office
- Experience with OEM BOM release processes and engineering IP management.
- Should be creative and able to discuss complex machinery concepts without assistance.
- Should have effective communication skills. The candidate must be able to write reports and e-mail correspondence with good grammar. The candidate must be able to communicate technical information with a professional attitude.
- Should have a good understanding of manufacturing practices.
- Should be cooperative and willing to work as a coach, and a team player.
- Should self-directed and resourceful, detail oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Should be confident with the ability to work under pressure.
- Should be flexible to accept assignments in support of overall site goals.
- Should add value to brainstorming sessions on technical problems.
