Senior IT Portfolio Manager (Contractor)
Location: Hybrid 3 days/week onsite, White Plains, NY
Type: Contract – 3-6 months to start, possibility for extension
About the Role:
For our direct client, a successful leader in their field, we are seeking an experienced Senior IT
Portfolio Manager to partner with executive leadership and bring structure, strategy, and clarity to a dynamic IT project portfolio. This is a high-impact contractor role designed to help the CIO and executive team prioritize and organize initiatives, enabling effective decision-making and alignment with strategic goals.
As the Senior IT Portfolio Manager, you will collaborate closely with the Director, Office of the CIO, the CIO, and key stakeholders to assess, structure, and communicate the current project portfolio. This role requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to establish trust and credibility with senior IT and business leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Organization & Prioritization:
- Build and maintain a structured IT project portfolio using tools like SmartSheets (or Excel).
- Collaborate with the CIO and executive team to evaluate, prioritize, and align projects with business objectives.
- Develop and continuously update portfolio artifacts, including dashboards, reports, and presentations for executive review.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with senior IT executives and cross-functional business leaders to gather input and drive consensus on project priorities.
Facilitate portfolio discussions, ensuring clear communication of progress, challenges, and resource needs.
Process Improvement:
Establish and document best practices for portfolio management tailored to the organization’s needs.
Recommend governance processes to streamline decision-making and improve transparency across the portfolio.
Communication & Reporting:
Create executive-level PowerPoint presentations and reports to articulate portfolio updates, risks, and priorities effectively.
Serve as a key communicator, ensuring stakeholders remain informed and aligned on IT project initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Proven track record as a Senior IT Portfolio Manager (not a Project Manager) with experience working at a strategic, high-level capacity.
- Strong background in collaborating with C-level executives and senior stakeholders.
- Familiarity with portfolio management tools such as SmartSheets or advanced proficiency with Excel.
Skills:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft impactful executive presentations.
Analytical mindset with the ability to organize complex information into actionable insights.
Hands-on experience with portfolio management and a talent for building structure in dynamic environments.
