Job Description :
The co-teacher is responsible for providing explicit instruction that is respectful, achievable, and developmentally appropriate for the students in their classroom and adheres to the curriculum for the grade / age. The co- teacher is part of the teaching team that includes the head teacher, Division Head, Child and Family Support Services, and grade team members.
Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with the head teachers to plan and teach small-group or whole-class lessons in language arts and math
- Teach a 6th-grade environmental science class
- Co-teach a language arts class with the support of the instructional coach and / or division head under the direction of the head teacher
- Assist students with independent or collaborative work
- Monitor student engagement
- Assume head teacher responsibilities as needed
- Record and share observations and information with the head teachers
- Meet regularly with the head teachers to discuss student progress and curriculum
- Write academic reports in language arts and science
- Communicate with parents as needed
- Perform additional duties before, during, or after school as needed
- Perform clerical duties, including recording and checking homework, recording attendance, etc.
- Attend professional development sessions
- Attend grade-level and division meetings
- Mentor students
