The School Psychologist works under the general direction of the Executive Director of Special Programs. The School Psychologist provides comprehensive psychological services including school consultation, collaborative teaming,assessment, evaluation, interpreting test results, eligibility determination particularly in the development of Individual Educational Programs. Provide counseling services to staff and families focusing on children with learning and emotional needs.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK :

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

Support School-wide Prevention Systems

  • Provide a leadership role in the development and delivery of Effective Behavioral and Instructional Support Systems (EBISS) at school sites
  • Serve as a consultative team member and support the delivery of school-wide Positive Behavioral Support (PBIS) programming at school sites
  • Be proficient with the use of school-wide, group, and individual data collection methods to facilitate effective decision-making across academic and behavioral / social / emotional domains
  • Participate on Risk Screen teams at school sites, working with students, families, and educators to conduct risk / threat assessments as warranted
  • As needed, participate in developing and implementing other school-wide programming to support students' academic and behavioral / social / emotional development

Support General Education System

  • Work with local EBISS or CARE / SET teams to identify and intervene with general education students in need of academic support across reading, math, and writing at the group or individual level
  • Work with local EBISS or CARE / SET teams to identify and intervene with general education students in need of behavioral / social / emotional support at the group or individual level
  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) for general education students and use data to assist in developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for general education students with behavioral needs
  • Conduct ADHD screenings, other mental health screenings (e.g., depression or anxiety), and provide referrals to mental health professionals as warranted
  • Work with school based 504 teams to provide academic, behavioral, or environmental supports for students with documented disabilities as warranted
  • Provide in-service professional development to general education staff on topics of expertise.
  • Support Special Education System

  • Perform role as it relates to all obligations of child-find under IDEA in alignment with the district EBISS protocols and decision rules.
  • Work with school based Special Education teams to identify and intervene with special education students in need of academic / behavioral / social / emotional support at the group or individual level
  • Conduct and communicate the results of initial and triennial psycho-educational evaluations for students referred to or already serviced by special education
  • Provide consultation and resources to parents and educators to help support the academic and behavioral / social / emotional needs of students in special education
  • Leadership and Collaborative Team Membership

  • Provide district and school level leadership on a variety of areas depending on your area of expertise or interest (provide in-services, committee membership).
  • Collaborative team membership is essential in order to effectively support school-wide prevention systems, support the general education system, and support the special education system. Furthermore, you will be required to collaborate with the core group of district psychologists.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS :

    A one-year contract renewable annually by the Board of Directors under the terms and conditions of the statutes and administrative rules of the State of Oregon, conditioned on successful evaluations and employee's maintenance of a current, valid license. Salary and benefits are established by policy and the collective bargaining agreement.

    Must be able to move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student's safety is being jeopardized. The employee needs to be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

    The Executive Director of Special Programs evaluates employee.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge of Response to Intervention system components and implementation.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Supports system components and implementation.
  • Knowledge of the current literature with special knowledge and understanding of the child with learning disabilities and / or behavior issues.
  • Training, experience and skills in selecting and administering appropriate diagnostic procedures and assessment tools including intellectual, academic and behavioral measures.
  • Ability to plan systematic intervention programs and provides consultation for school personnel relative to carrying out IPE plans and behavioral plans.
  • Assess children showing sign of disturbed or maladaptive emotional, social, or educational development including intellectual disability, gifted and learning-disabled children.
  • Abide by confidentiality requirements in all situations.
  • Extensive knowledge of the characteristics of special needs populations, IDEA regulations, experience with crisis intervention and conflict resolution; experience in the assessment of English Language Learners (ELL); experience in school-based neuropsychological assessment procedures (with an emphasis on learning disability issues).
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various school buildings.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    Master's in School Psychology or Education Specialist

    CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING :

    This position requires an Oregon School Psychological License (Personnel Service License).
