About the job :

Provide leadership for the Youth Cheerleading program while also serving in a front-line lead role.

A day in the life :

  • Supervises the Youth Cheerleading program and / or shift ensuring program standards are maintained
  • Provides leadership, expertise and support to assigned staff which may include training, mentoring, directing and assigning work. May assist Supervisor in hiring and evaluating staff.
  • Assists Supervisor in developing, planning and scheduling programs.
  • Oversees facility operations during assigned shifts; opens and closes facility; ensures that health and safety standards are maintained; oversees the operation and care of equipment and supplies, addresses maintenance issues.
  • Ensures the inclusion of all participants, adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities and working with Therapeutic Recreation staff as needed.
  • Provides for safety of participants and staff, including implementing risk management practices.
  • Oversees the operation and care of equipment, supplies
  • Addresses public questions and concerns regarding facilities and programs in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Serves as the on-site lead of the Emergency Action Plan, managing response according protocols.
  • Maintains required records and reports.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reports; reports incidents of child abuse / neglect.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Schedule :

  • Mondays & Wednesdays from 5-7 : 30pm starting on March 17th
  • Performance on Saturday, May 10th
  • Requirements :

    What we're looking for;

    Strong Knowledge of :

  • Operations, functions and standards for assignment including programming, facility operations, and risk management;
  • Effective supervision and customer service best practices; and
  • Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures for assignment.
  • Proper technique for cheerleading and tumbling skills
  • Ability to communicate and teach proper technique for cheerleading and tumbling skills
  • Skill and Ability to :

  • Lead, motivate and direct others;
  • Exercise initiative and independent decision making;
  • Demonstrate a high level of competency and expertise in program area;
  • Actively participate in all activities
  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrate planning and problem-solving skills;
  • Communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing
  • Work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive, and respectful relationship with staff and the general public;
  • Manage emergency / crisis situations
  • Operate computer programs as well as staying current with new programs and operate common office equipment; and
  • Work independently with minimum direction while also working as part of a team and collaborating with others.
  • Education, Experience and Training :

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college courses in related field preferred; AND
  • One (1) year of experience in area of responsibility and / or performing similar tasks; OR
  • Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
  • Position Specific Requirement

    This position may require reporting to additional sites throughout the workday, typically achieved in a motor vehicle OR other modes of transportation. If choosing a personal vehicle, possession of, or ability to obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.

    If you do not have a driver’s license or have an unacceptable driving history, it does not disqualify you from this position, only from driving a vehicle for district business.

    Supervision Exercised :

    Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this position; however provides leadership and direction to Youth Cheerleading aide staff and volunteers.

    Supervision Received :

    Work under the general supervision of Sports Program Coordinator.

    Working Conditions :

  • All activities will be conducted indoors.
  • Work schedule is varied, but includes two practices a week, both 2 hours in length and some minor additional work outside of those times
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
  • Ability to work and maintain focus in a work environment with moderate noise (i.e., working around others making having conversations) and with frequent interruptions.
  • Work includes extensive exposure and contact with staff and public, which may cause exposure to illness.
  • Occasional focus on a computer screen. Manual dexterity and coordination may be required. Daily precise control of fingers and hand movements while operation computer keyboard, telephone, and standard office equipment.
  • Selection Process :

    Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by Bend Park & Recreation District policies, including a background check, a pre-employment drug screen, and a driving history review when driving is required for position.
