What are the responsibilities and job description for the Endoscopy Technician, Full-Time position at Bend Surgery Center?
Job Summary:
Supports Physician and nursing staff to provide individualized and specialized care to patients in the endoscopy and spinal injection area.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Does not oversee other staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists in preparing patient for designated procedure
- Assists physician during endoscopy and spinal injection procedures
- Handles patient specimens per policy
- Accurately completes laboratory slips and culture/pathology slips
- Reports observed changes in patient condition to nurse or physician
- Restocks supplies as appropriate for the next procedure or end of day
- Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the endoscopy suite according to requirements of patient, physician, and procedure
- Follows manufacturer’s instructions for use for all steps of cleaning, high level disinfection or sterilization of instruments and/or equipment
- Terminal cleaning as assigned
- Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies
- Orients and trains new staff
- Proactively participates in QAPI and Safety Programs
- Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to the Code of Conduct
- Complies with center policies and procedures
- Demonstrates an attitude that is caring, respectful, sensitive, tactful, compassionate, empathetic, and tolerant
- Provides a safe environment for the patient
- Communicates safety concerns appropriately following Chain of Command
- Documents patient care records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner
- Promotes patient and physician satisfaction
- Practices aseptic techniques and sterile processes as appropriate to the endoscopy suite
- Wears appropriate Personal Protected Equipment (PPE)
- Observes universal precautions
- Adheres to safety policies and practices good body mechanics and ergonomics
- Follows radiation safety protocols as required for spinal injection procedures
- Follows all rules and regulations for PHI and HIPAA protections of patient information
- Follows all policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, attendance, code of conduct, safety and safeguarding confidential information
- Reports incidents in a timely manner
- Promotes patient and employee safety and communicates concerns appropriately, following Chain of Command
- Attends in-service programs as requested
- Demonstrates ability to evaluate suggestions and criticism objectively and undertakes responsibility of changing behavior or seeks further guidance as needed
- Performs other related duties as directed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to implement principles of aseptic and sterile technique
- Knowledge of endoscopy and spinal injection equipment use and care
- Knowledge of endoscopy procedures and basics of care to include anesthesia and potential complications
- Recognition of signs and symptoms of emergency situations and interventions
- Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population professionally
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels within Bend Surgery Center and external customers, clients and potential employees
- Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English
- Ability to successfully write business correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with managers, employees, physicians, vendors, and the general public.
- Basic Math skills required
Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Must maintain BLS certification
- Previous endoscopy and/or spinal injection experience preferred
