JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary:
This position will support the testing activities for product development and vehicle testing of the next generation Air Disc Brake technology. Technician will be responsible for installing and servicing product samples of electrical, pneumatic, and wheel end brake components on commercial vehicles, along with the data acquisition systems and sensors, and performing trouble shouting vehicle test setups. Technician will be responsible for collection of vehicle test data and maintaining test records. Successful candidate will also have CDL and be able to test drive vehicles or transport vehicles between test locations. The ideal candidate will be organized, have a strong desire to learn, have solid communication skills, as well as have a desire to be hands-on in problem solving.
Essential Functions:
- Support Vehicle testing, prepare vehicles for testing, perform product vehicle installations, complete product inspections, and maintain of test vehicles and data collection systems.
- Perform Vehicle data acquisition instrumentation installation, and data retrieval. Instrumentation will include IMC Data Works, Vector acquisition units, CAN signals, as well as thermal couples, pressor sensors, and accelerometers.
- Maintain test documentation and logs and prepare technical reports and test data summaries.
- Assist in development and maintenance of test procedures and instructions.
- Trouble shoot product installations, data instrumentation, and operational issues.
- Interfaces with customer fleet locations, OEM technicians, test track personnel, and other vehicle test groups.
- Coordinates, schedules, and organizes equipment and facilities needed to support work with internal and external groups.
- Supports failure analysis on test parts and field returns as needed.
- Follows and enhances safety procedures and use of personnel protective equipment.
- Able to travel to test sites as necessary including TRC in E Liberty, Ohio, KRC in Houghton Michigan, Kalamazoo and Marshal Michigan. Willing to travel > 50%.
- Perform vehicle test drive evaluations, and transport of vehicles between test locations.
- Perform vehicle installations and vehicle inspections at customer OEM, Customer Fleets locations, and test tracks.
Skills:
- Possesses mechanical nature and aptitude.
- Knowledge of vehicle repair and service, mechanic tools, and electronical diagnostic equipment.
- Able to read blueprints, and electrical and pneumatic schematics.
- Able to read, interpret, and apply test standard documentation including FMVSS, and SAE standards.
- Knowledge with data acquisition equipment, electrical assembly, and ability to use oscilloscopes, power meters, and other instruments a plus.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills in a team environment
- Possess PC skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Possesses good oral and written communication and is comfortable communicating with customers and engineering team.
- Able to handle multiple conflicting priorities and to work in a cross-functional team in a dynamic working environment
- Able to manage time and to prioritize efforts with other team members and accept the input of other team members in an open manner to achieve goals rapidly.
- Has appreciable latitude for independent action and decision, and able to perform from general instructions only, with minimum supervision.

Experience:
- Commercial Driver License and driving experience with tractor-trailer endorsement required.
- 5 years of experience working with vehicle systems required.
- Experience in vehicle service/maintenance, repairs, and installations required, experience with commercial truck experience preferred.
- Hands-on vehicle installations and repair experience required.
- Experience with vehicle diagnostic systems required.
- Ideal candidate will have experience with vehicle electrical harnesses, vehicle test instrumentation, data acquisition systems and sensor such as thermal couples, pressure transducers, voltmeters, etc. Background with electrical systems and assemblies a plus.
- Ideal candidate will have Commercial Truck Brake knowledge and experience.
- Experience coordinating maintenance activities, vehicles, equipment, and drivers to meet schedule requirements required.
- ASE certification is a plus.
