What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ramp Service Agent position at Benedum Airport Authority?
The Ramp Service Agent (RSA) provides support service to ensure safe and efficient ground handling for aircraft. The RSA performs a variety of under-wing services for aircraft. Duties include, but not limited to, guiding aircraft to and from gates, loading and unloading of baggage and cargo, aircraft lavatory and potable water servicing, and aircraft cabin cleaning and provisioning.
RSAs also perform aircraft deicing/anti-icing operations during winter months. They also assist with keeping passenger egress lanes, sidewalks and walkways clear of snow and ice, and terminal cleaning and upkeep. Additionally, they also serve passengers with disabilities. This may include a wheelchair to expedite or ease movement through the terminal and during boarding and deplaning. RSAs must be knowledgeable of all airline procedures and policies to instill customer confidence, show genuine concern, and help operations run safely and efficiently.
The airport operates 365 days a year, therefore weekend and holiday work may be required. The principal duties of this position are performed in an outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards. The Ramp Service Agent reports to the Airline and Security Operations Manager, who assigns work tasks.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Load and unload arriving and departing aircraft baggage and/or cargo.
- Deliver passenger baggage to the claim area.
- Perform aircraft lavatory and potable water services.
- Perform aircraft cabin cleaning and provisioning services.
- Operate ground support equipment and report malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform Winter Operations tasks including aircraft deicing/anti-icing.
- Assist with terminal cleaning and upkeep.
- Escort passengers to and from the terminal to the aircraft, and provide assistance to disabled passengers orothers needing special assistance.
- Perform all duties, under sometimes stressful conditions beyond the employee's control, while attempting to influence a favorable impression of the North Central West Virginia Airport or contracted airline service provided by our business partners.
- Perform additional tasks as directed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 18
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma, GED, or International equivalent
- Must be able to pass a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment Drug Test
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating days off
- Must be flexible to work additional hours beyond regular shift, on short notice, and as needed due to operational necessity
- Must be able to read, write and fluently speak and understand the English language
- Strong oral, written, and organizational skills
- The ability to work well with others
- Demonstrate a strong initiative and be a self-starter
