POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Deputy – Recorder
Reports to: County Recorder
POSITION OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE:
Assist County Recorder in carrying out the statutory responsibilities, operations, functions and activities of the Office of Recorder as outlined by the NDCC. Under indirect supervision, supervises, coordinates, and participate in support activities to document the registration of deeds, personal property records and other county records related to property ownership. Duties require proficiency in typing, independent judgment and a high degree of accuracy.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Supervise, coordinate, and participate in the day-to-day operation of the County Recorder’s Office.
b. Check for completeness, errors, insure accuracy and be accountable for permanent papers, documents and correspondence of record.
c. Performs general clerical duties such as filing office documents, stuffing envelopes, collating packets, labeling files, shredding documents, making copies and typing correspondence and memos.
d. Respond to informational inquiries from other governmental agencies and the general public. Handle a variety of details which involves contact with various public officials; works with the public and public officials and offices in a professional and courteous manner; reads correspondence and miscellaneous detail.
e. Provides information and handles various situations arising during the absence of the County Recorder as needed.
f. Provides customer service to the public, answers telephone calls and directs the caller to the appropriate person.
g. Researches deeds and grantor/grantee index to assist customers with genealogy projects.
h. Assists in the training of newly hired employees if needed.
i. Performs all other various related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Skill in the operation of computers. Ability to perform clerical routine and handle clerical detail. Must have legible handwriting. Ability to make routine mathematical computations and understand legal descriptions. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities would be beneficial, including, but not limited to:
1. Basic knowledge of legal and law terminology relating to the Recorder’s Office;
2. Skill in operating a computer terminal sufficient to enter, retrieved and manipulate data.
3. Skill in performing basic mathematical computations sufficient to calculate payments received, etc.
4. Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
· Education - High School Graduation or equivalent.
· A valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility is also required.

Pay: $3,011.00 - $3,389.00 per month
