What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Benson Hospital?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician will inspect different equipment and perform any basic repairs or preventative maintenance when required. Essential duties include mowing lawns, removing weeds, trimming shrubs, planting new greenery, and removing unwanted trees. Ensuring walkways remain clear is another important task.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Clean interior and exterior areas of buildings on our campus on a daily basis, as well as performing additional seasonal cleaning tasks.
- Pick up and remove trash and debris from the property and dispose of it appropriately on a daily basis.
- Conduct regular maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, appliances, or other systems in the facility as required.
- Carry out regular maintenance on structures, including carpentry and masonry work to repair damaged floors and walls.
- Keep outdoor areas safe during bad weather, including spreading deicer on walkways and steps.
- Perform light excavation, using shovels, picks and other tools to dig trenches and level ground.
- Maintain landscape and garden areas by planting grass, trimming trees and bushes, and fertilizing flowers and other plants.
- Contact the appropriate maintenance engineer for maintenance jobs that the technician cannot do alone.
- Assures that pre-determined schedules for building, utilities, and equipment preventive maintenance are followed to prevent facility and equipment deterioration.
- Assists in initiating needed corrective action to renew structural parts of the facility such as paving, roofing, etc.
- Assists in maintaining adequate documentation of equipment performance and preventive maintenance tests and inspection results.
- Assists in maintaining inventory records of all equipment in the facility to help determine replacement needs and maximize utilization.
- Performs painting duties and floor care as needed.
- Performs minor carpentry.
- Assists in the handling, storing, and disposing of hospital generated bio-waste, following current policies and procedures.
- Attends all continuing education classes as required by hospital policies.
- Assists in moving furniture, equipment, and supplies.
- Arrives ready to work, in uniform, well groomed, with tools and name badge.
- Continuously be alert of items that need attention and correct them promptly.
- Report any problems observed to his immediate supervisor.
- Report to his immediate supervisor upon completion of all written or verbal work requests.
- Be aware of potential trouble areas and check them often.
- Clean work areas upon completion of each task to maintain an organized, orderly department with regular monitoring for safety hazards, including keeping tools and equipment clean and in good working order.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Prefer previous experience in general maintenance
- Ability to work well with others and shall demonstrate initiative and judgment in adapting new and improved programs and procedures.
- Valid Driver License is required
