Position Criteria:
Professional School Counselor 5-12 endorsement & Master’s degree in School Counseling, required
Experience working with secondary (7-12) learners
Performance Responsibilities
Teamwork
Collaborate and confer with parents, students, colleagues, and administrators
Provide in-service training and guidance or learning for teachers and district staff
Advise administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline, student mental health, post-secondary readiness, and more.
Connect children with specific needs and their parents to special programs, mental health services, specialists, and outside agencies when necessary.
Work with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the school counseling program.
Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of team collaboration through the Collaborative Learning/Data Teams (CLDT) and know how to work in a team to improve individually and as a system.
Delivery of professional development in a variety of ways to enhance staff knowledge in the areas of working with at-risk students, implementing positive behavior supports and interventions in the classroom, responding to student needs, etc.
Educational Excellence
Support the implementation of the school counseling program.
Assist administration with the development of master schedule and scheduling of students.
Assist in the enrollment and management of concurrent enrollment with our partner, Kirkwood Community College.
Take an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
Interpret the counseling program to the community
Plan and evaluate the counseling program.
Pursue continuous professional growth.
Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with all learners
Maintain accurate records of interactions with students, adults, and other data collection pieces to ensure a quality school counseling program is being implemented.

Help students evaluate career interests and choices
Develop and monitor accommodations and interventions; assist with the Problem Solving Process; collaborate with teachers and administrators to determine necessary changes.
Demonstrate knowledge of programs such as Senior Year Plus, IDEA, Post-Secondary Readiness, and other related pieces that connect with secondary education.
Caring/Belong
Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustments.
Remain readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
Counsel individuals and groups of students who demonstrate specific needs.
Work to increase student attendance and prevent students from dropping out of school.
Guide students in their participation in school and community activities
