An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for the Female Detention Officer Position: High School Diploma or Equivalent GED; a valid Minnesota Driver's License, andPass a criminal background investigation, andPass a Video Detention Officer Test. Highlights: Listed are the shift hours that are bid based on seniority.12-hour shifts: 7 am - 7 pm and 7 pm - 7 am8-hour shifts: 7 am - 3 pm and 3 pm - 11 pmCompetitive Pay – starting at $25.00 per hour.Advanced placement on the pay scale is available for candidates with corrections or detention experience.Shift DifferentialComprehensive Benefits PackageOn-the-job trainingRotating 3-day weekendsUniform and Equipment provided upon completion of Training.Annual Uniform AllowanceAnd Additional BenefitsPosition SummaryResponsible for the control, observation, and supervision of inmates to ensure the maintenance of security, safety, operational rules, and policies of the Benton County Jail.Position ObjectiveThis is a continuous posting, and applications will be reviewed in batches based on the date the application was submitted. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential FunctionsA. Responds to inmate concerns, and medical emergencies, performs emergency first aid, operates emergency equipment, and reports to medical staff.B. Enforces jail rules and regulations including the disciplining of inmates.C. Prepares and updates reports and maintains records.D. Completes medical questionnaires to assess inmates within medical guidelines and distributes medications.E. Maintains counts of inmates in assigned areas.F. Searches inmates and inspects cells, recreation areas, grounds, work locations, and other activity areas for unauthorized objects or materials.G. Operates central control, which includes, but is not limited to, monitoring radio traffic, opening facility doors, monitoring movement within the facility (inmate and staff), answering phone calls, and monitoring inmate phone use.H. Processes the intake and release of detainees.I. Escorts inmates and groups of inmates to work and other activities.J. Supervises and instructs inmates on work crew activities and equipment operation.K. Responds to safety and security incidents and other emergency situations, may require physical restraint and control of resisting and uncooperative inmates.L. Transports and assists in the supervision of inmates outside the facility.M. Completes safety and security checks throughout the facility.Additional FunctionsA. Attends trainings as needed.B. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A. Basic knowledge of law enforcement terminology and procedures.B. Ability to effectively use a computer and various software programs.C. Ability to handle critical situations in a calm manner.D. The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.E. Ability to maintain effective public relations and deal with hostile or aggressive persons.F. Ability to handle various assignments and problems under moderate supervision within standard operating procedures.G. Ability to perform standard procedures and tasks where basic analytical ability is required. Detailed guidelines and procedures are generally used to make decisions or determine actions.H. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with regular contact with departments, outside agencies, and the public to relay basic information or relay facts.I. Ability to work extended, evening and weekend hours as needed. J. Ability to travel within Minnesota, including extended overnight stays.K. Ability to travel in with your daily work assignment.L. Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.M. Performs physical/mental demands of the work environment requirements for this position.N. Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours, and outside regular hours as necessary.O. Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.P. Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to private data. Any access to private data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data is being accessed, employee should take reasonable measures to ensure the private data is not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished the private data must be properly stored according to county policies and the Minnesota Statutes.Physical Demands & Working ConditionsA. Work is performed in the Benton County Jail and other facilities involved with the transport of inmates.B. Normal hearing and correctable vision are required.C. Must possess physical strength and ability to restrain and control persons and ability to physically defend self.D. This position requires the ability to lift or assist in lifting injured persons. Duties can include prolonged periods of standing or walking.E. There is a Moderate likelihood of contact with bloodborne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other potentially infectious materials.F. There is a Moderate likelihood of verbal abuse and violence exposure from hostile and angry inmates.G. This position is exposed to mental effort and stress and is exposed to individuals with mental illness.H. This position frequently performs work under moderate attention to detail and deadlines.Hours of WorkA. Schedule to fit a 24 hr./day 7 days/week demand. OT might be required.Equipment UtilizedA.
