Service Shop Manager
Position Purpose
The Service Shop Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the transportation maintenance shop and will be responsible for the efficient operation of the maintenance and repair of the district's fleet of school buses and other transportation vehicles. This individual will ensure the safety, reliability, and longevity of all district vehicles by managing a team of mechanics and technicians, overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance, and maintaining compliance with all safety and regulatory standards
Essential Job Functions
- Fleet Management & Maintenance : Supervise and manage the maintenance and repair of all fleet vehicles, ensuring timely service and compliance with safety standards.
- Team Supervision : Lead, train, and manage a team of skilled mechanics and technicians, providing guidance on proper maintenance techniques, safety protocols, and troubleshooting.
- Preventive Maintenance : Maintain, monitor and look for ways to improve preventive maintenance schedules to reduce vehicle downtime, extend fleet lifespan, and ensure operational efficiency.
- Repairs & Troubleshooting : Oversee repairs, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and safety-related issues in transportation vehicles, ensuring timely and quality service.
- Inventory & Budget Management : Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, ensuring availability and cost-effective procurement. Assist with managing the transportation shop's budget to ensure efficient spending and adherence to financial constraints.
- Safety & Compliance : Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including those set by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other relevant agencies. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of vehicles and the shop facility.
- Recordkeeping & Reporting : Maintain detailed records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and inspections within EZDistrict. Prepare reports on fleet performance, maintenance schedules, and budget status for the Director of Transportation.
- Vendor & Supplier Relations : Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors for parts, tools, and service needs, ensuring cost-effectiveness and reliability.
- Emergency Support : Provide support during vehicle breakdowns or emergencies, coordinating repairs and ensuring minimal disruption to transportation services.
- Staff Development & Training : Ensure that all shop personnel are trained in the latest maintenance techniques, equipment handling, and safety practices. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and skill development within the team.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned.
