General Description

The BeOnAir Network is an organization that instructs students in all areas of the broadcast industry to become the next generation of media professionals. Our brand promise is “Learn from a Pro to Become a Pro”; students are trained by broadcast media professionals working in the field. The organization operates seven campuses across Ohio, Illinois, Colorado, and Miami. Like all members of the BeOnAir Network staff, the Director of Career Services is expected to project the organization's core values and core purpose. This position supports a college and creative culture and ensures graduates are fully ready for entry-level employment opportunities.

A key role for the Director of Career Services is providing support to students as they approach graduation to prepare them for entry-level employment. The Director of Career Services provides a network for hiring employers to benefit the students. The Director of Career Services advises students on the job application process, and interview process, as well as works closely one on one with students.

The Director of Career Services is responsible for securing entry-level employment positions for graduates of the school's programs. Additional responsibilities may include orientation, graduation, planning of special events, training workshops, career fairs, alumni events, and a variety of tasks. Placement goals for this position per week.

The Director of Career Services will be expected to have extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish campus and/or department goals.

Scorecard accountabilities: Dials to employers, Employer visits, Graduate appointments, Graduates on job interviews, companies visiting the campus, Placements.

BeOnAir Network Core Purpose

Graduate students who are preferred choice of broadcast media business to hire, partner, or outsource entry-level opportunities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Secure verified job placements per week.
  • Secure entry-level jobs in broadcasting and/or media for graduates in good standing.
  • Conduct phone calls to graduates, current employers, and new employers per week. (calls are recorded and monitored)
  • Visit new employers in the community per week with a goal to secure employment opportunities or at a minimum internship opportunities for graduates.
  • Meet with graduates on a weekly basis on campus to assist with employment openings, job applications, resume assistance, interview techniques, and any other areas relevant to placement.
  • Build a pipeline to include graduates actively in job interviews per week.
  • Conduct and host hiring companies to visit the campus and conduct interviews with graduates.
  • Maintain an ongoing database of all information with documentation including, but not limited to the following areas:
  • Student leads and placement assignments
  • Weekly contacts or attempted contacts with all unplaced graduates
  • Building rapport with all local and nationwide PD’s, ND’s, G.M’s, and hiring managers
  • Maintaining current job listing for student use
  • Coach, counsel, and motivate students and/or graduates to develop relationships.
  • Assist with résumé writing, cover letters, mock interviews, and demo reels for students before the placement process begins.
  • Constant follow-up communication with graduates once job leads have been issued.
  • Speak to students in class to inform them about career services to motivate and enhance the placement process.
  • Manage and keep State and National placement records to meet and/or exceed Accrediting Standards and compliance.
  • Contact local and national media companies for hiring opportunities to generate job placement and resources for graduates.
  • File weekly update reports and scorecard accurately and on time to the National Director of Career Services.
  • Maintain regular communication with your School Director, Education Department, National Director of Career Services, students, employers, and graduates.
  • Develop relationships with employers in areas not directly related to media/broadcasting, known as non-traditional placements.
  • Ensure graduates are eligible for assistance before the placement procedure begins.

Work Experience Requirements

At least 4 years of direct experience in Career Services, Job Development, Staffing

Education Requirements

4-year college degree or equivalent experience.

Physical Demands

In order to fully service the staff and student needs, this position requires the employee to often physically move from department to department as well as present multiple lectures for long periods of time. This is not a sedentary position.

  • Occasional lifting, bending, and climbing stairs
  • Frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting, and standing
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks and function in a fast-paced working environment

Compensation: From $57,000 to $65,000 per year
