Project Overview
The Construction Project Manager will oversee two capital projects in San Jose, CA:
- Twin Peaks Project
- Start: May 2025
- Completion: September 2025
- Denali Project
- Start: September 2025
- Completion: Mid-2026
Position Summary
The Construction Project Manager will be responsible for on-site management of construction, safety, and quality activities on capital projects that typically involve retrofits and expansions of existing facilities. Scopes may include office fit-outs, cleanroom installations, and installation of equipment for chemical production, purification, and packaging. Project budgets range from $2 million to $30 million with timelines spanning up to 12–18 months.
This position requires daily onsite presence in San Jose to manage general contractors, oversee site safety, maintain quality standards, and coordinate closely with cross-functional teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of construction site activity, ensuring zero safety incidents
- Enforce compliance with corporate and industry safety protocols
- Coordinate daily construction activities and contractor performance
- Ensure all work complies with approved plans and specifications
- Manage the construction contracting process from bid through closeout
- Oversee contractor change order processes, including negotiation and justification reviews
- Track and review contractor construction schedules
- Produce weekly/monthly reports including cost tracking, schedule status, and change management
- Conduct and participate in safety and quality meetings
- Provide consistent updates to project stakeholders and executive leadership
- Oversee permitting and inspection coordination with local jurisdictions and engineers of record
- Conduct quality assurance inspections throughout the project lifecycle
- Support contractor onboarding and team training
- Mentor and guide team members in project execution best practices
- Collaborate with Safety and Quality Managers to address site issues
- Perform additional duties as required by project needs
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of construction safety, quality, and project management principles
- Proficiency in:
- Project scheduling tools
- Cost tracking and forecasting systems
- Construction contract administration
- Experience with:
- Commercial building projects
- Cleanroom installations
- Chemical production environments
- Ability to interpret:
- ASME, ACI standards
- Construction codes and owner procedures
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines
Education & Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 10 years of experience managing construction projects of increasing complexity
- Proven experience managing California-based projects
- OSHA 30 certification (minimum required)
- First Aid/CPR Certification (required)
- Experience with incident reporting and accident investigations
Preferred Software & Tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Familiarity with project management and scheduling software
