What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician, 3rd Shift (Night) position at Berber Food Manufacturing, LLC?
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety and Food Safety: Always performs tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on production machinery, including conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and refrigeration systems.
- Conduct inspections, lubrication, and adjustments to ensure equipment operates efficiently and meets production requirements.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
- Respond promptly and provide emergency unscheduled troubleshooting and repairs of production equipment during the manufacturing process to prevent disruptions to production.
- Facility Maintenance:
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the production area, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards and food safety regulations.
- Monitor and repair facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, to support a safe and comfortable working environment.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and safe work practices.
- Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations (e.g., HACCP, Food Safety, GMP’s, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, Gluten Free).
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment inspections, and inventory management.
- Document equipment repairs, parts replacements, and maintenance procedures to track equipment history and performance.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Coordinate with production supervisors and operators to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize disruptions to production schedules.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and safety personnel, to address maintenance issues and implement solutions.
- Provide technical assistance and training to production staff on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED, required.
- Technical school education, preferred.
- 5 years’ related experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably in an automated food processing plant.
- 5 years’ experience troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and mechanical systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting/repairs on PLC, relay logic and logic controllers, 480v, 220v, 110v AC single/three phase and DC systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, and SCADA systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including motors, drives, and industrial sensors.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to electrical and control systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and learn new technologies as needed.
- Ability to perform mechanical repairs that include hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to operate a computer to support and record documentation in our computer maintenance management system.
- The ability to drive a forklift/industrial equipment is required.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Complies with company attendance and punctuality policy.
- Fulfills essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
- Adheres to a drug and alcohol zero tolerance policy.
- Must be able to comply with and follow all food safety, and third-party certification policies (SQF, Gluten-Free and Organic, etc.)

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise, and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity.
- Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment (exposure to rotating and reciprocating parts), mechanical hazards, forklifts, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards, communicable diseases.
- Position requires the ability to stand; walking around office, warehouse, and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting on a daily basis. In addition to continuing walking and standing on hard surfaces, climbing and descending steps. May also include, driving industrial equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, pallet jacks.
- Also requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.
