What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mixer, 2nd Shift (PM), Corn position at Berber Food Manufacturing, LLC?
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Food Safety & Safety: Always perform tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.
- Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies and trainings related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations (e.g., HACCP, Food Safety, GMP’s, Food Fraud/Defense, Allergens, Organic, Gluten Free)
- Reports equipment malfunctions and assures that the preventive maintenance program is effective and meets production needs.
- Ensures compliance of LOTO procedures.
- Must follow the production schedule and stay on track; completes efficient product changeovers.
- Promotes teamwork at all levels.
- Maintains work area clean, safe, and organized.
- Responsible for following and complying with all SQF requirements.
- Maintains workstations per SQF guidelines.
- Responsible for following Company rules, policies, and procedures.
- Mixer (Flour)
- Must be able to identify and understand the requirements for preparing the batch using the appropriate recipes.
- Follows recipes and instructions for preparing the dough based on product specifications and quantities.
- Verifies that all ingredients are accurate prior to mixing the products.
- Coordinate with the machine operator to agree that the 1st mix of every product is the correct dough consistency prior to removing the mix for the bowl.
- Ensures that all mixes meet acceptable quality, yield standards and are in line with the production schedule.
- Monitors temperature, pressure, appearance, and physical changes as part of the process progression.
- Responsible for not exceeding waste standards.
- Must report any deficiencies to the department lead and/or supervisor.
- Maintains record and documents data into the required reports (mixing, temperatures, etc.)
- Responsible for using RF gun, for all ingredient consumption.
- Maintains record of quantity of mixes and assures all ingredient consumptions are performed and entered on TGI work orders.
- Responsible for maintaining constant communication with the machine operator.
- Communicates and coordinates lunches and breaks with the machine operator.
- Must be proactive in troubleshooting and resolving problems.
- Verifies that the equipment is maintained in top operating condition, cleaned, and sanitized.
- Responsible for maintaining the mixing room organized and audit ready.
- Reports equipment malfunctions and assures that the preventive maintenance program is effective and meets production needs.
- Must follow the production schedule and stay on track; completes efficient product changeovers.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Grinder:
- Responsible for the preparation of equipment.
- Changes the grinder stones per frequency indicated.
- Verifies the planning scheduling.
- Inspects the quality of the corn before grinding (pH and humidity).
- Verifies that the masa meets the texture standards required by the recipe.
- Weighs the masa per the recipe standards.
- Responsible for entering information on TGI system.
- Completes the changes of the preservative tanks when they finish.
- Corn Mixer
- Completes the preparation of the mix using the appropriate recipe and specifications.
- Guarantees that all the mixes follow the required quality standards.
- Verifies that all the ingredients are scanned in the TGI system.
- Verify that the ingredients used follow the FIFO program.
- Meets machinery performance standards.
- Ensures that waste standards are not exceeded.
- Reports and deficiencies to the department supervisor after any change over of product.
- Maintains good communication with the machine operator regarding changes that are presented (texture, color, smell of masa, etc.)
- Completes proper documentation of production reports (mixes, temperatures, lot numbers, etc.)
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications and Experience:
- Grade School level; High School Diploma/ GED a plus.
- 1-2 years’ experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery equipment or similar experience.
- 1-2 years’ experience following work task specifications, SOP’s, recipes, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have proficient communications skills both verbal and written.
- Must be proficient in basic math skills and the proper use of a calculator.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must have proficient analytical skills.
- Must have proficient problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to train, coach, and motivate co-workers.
- Must be a team player.
- Must be self-motivated; able to initiate action to correct deficiencies.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to perform work while standing during prolonged periods.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp and work in adverse and awkward positions.
- Must be reliable, punctual and have schedule flexibility including working weekends, Holidays, and off-shifts as needed.
- Must be able to comply with company attendance and punctuality policy.
- Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
- Must adhere to a drug and alcohol zero tolerance policy.
- Must be able to comply with and follow all food safety, and third-party certification policies (SQF, Gluten-Free and Organic, etc.).

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Continual walking and standing on hard surface, climbing, and descending steps.
- Continual bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting up-to 50 lbs.
- Exposed to rotating and reciprocating parts.
- Driving industrial equipment such as big joe or pallet jacks.
- Exposed to cool, hot temperatures and noise.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Temperatures ranging to very warm conditions.
- Loud noises generated from equipment.
