What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Dean of Nursing position at BERGEN COMM COLLEGE?
Serves as the clinical liaison between the Department of Nursing and clinical agencies. Participates in supervising, coaching, evaluating, and recruiting nursing adjunct faculty members and coordinates orientation and ongoing educational support. Identifies appropriate acute care and community clinical sites and maintains affiliations. Oversees and ensures compliance with the College program, New Jersey Board of Nursing and accrediting agency policies.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serves as the clinical liaison between the Department of Nursing and clinical agencies. Partners with facilities and clinical programs to facilitate agreements for learning opportunities that align with program outcomes; ensures faculty productivity and student learning are optimized.
- Participates in program learning outcomes assessment activities
- Engages in program accreditation process.
- Identifies appropriate acute care and community clinical sites and maintains affiliations. Participates in supervising, coaching, evaluating and recruiting nursing adjunct faculty members and coordinates orientation and ongoing educational support; makes at least one site visit each semester.
- Communicates results of clinical site evaluations; develops and utilizes mechanisms to maintain timely processing of clinical site affiliation agreements.
- Collaborates with Student Health Services, the Office of the Associate Dean, and faculty to verify student requirements (e.g. Criminal Background Check, student health, CPR) are current and comply with affiliation agreements.
- Works with course faculty to create and distribute student clinical rotation lists and pertinent information to clinical facilities.
- Maintains student compliance records and database; creates and distributes required reports. Participates in departmental meetings and committee work as assigned.
- Assumes departmental responsibilities in the absence of the Associate Dean.
- Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Nursing or other designated management.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s degree in nursing and current NJ RN license required.
Experience: Must have a minimum of 3 years of clinical teaching experience in an academic setting; this qualification may be waived for an individual with appropriate alternate experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must have computer competency, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, successful experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to excellence in teaching and clinical skills.
- Experience or willingness to learning the Typhon clinical management software that is used for clinical requirement tracking.
- Experience or willingness to learning ATI learning.
- Experience or willingness to learn the Canvas online learning management system.
- Must possess leadership, coaching and teambuilding skills to foster supportive working relationships with students, staff, faculty and community stakeholders.
- Must be able to develop effective interpersonal relationships and promote student and program success in a team environment.
- Must be able to work independently, problem solve and make decisions using strategic and analytical thinking.
- Must possess outcomes assessment experience.
Other: Evening availability is required with occasional weekend availability for clinical site visits. Personal vehicle, registration, insurance and license required for clinical affiliation visits.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- Annual Salary is $95,000-$103,000
- NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan.
- 23 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, 3 Partial Sick Days. All designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year.
