Bering Marine Corporation is hiring Mates for our fleet of tugs, barges, landing crafts, and hovercraft, providing essential services to some of the most remote locations in Alaska. We move building materials, equipment, and gravel to water-locked villages—navigating some of the most extreme conditions Alaska has to offer.

What You’ll Do:
- Assist the Vessel Captain in determining course and speed based on wind, weather, tides, and currents.
- Stand navigation watch while underway and ensure safe passage.
- Steer the vessel and maneuver barges to destinations while avoiding hazards.
- Monitor and report crew days worked and cargo hours promptly.
- Maintain vessel logs and ensure compliance with company and USCG regulations.
- Participate in safety meetings, conduct JSA’s, and enforce company safety policies.
- Work in a tight-knit team environment—teamwork is a MUST!
What You Need to Succeed:
✔ Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mate required (Alaska experience preferred).
✔ Local Knowledge: Must have familiarity with the operating area.
✔ Physical Stamina: This is a physically demanding job—must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb, balance, kneel, and work in extreme weather conditions.
✔ Certifications:
- USCG License – Mate 200 Ton Minimum, Coastal (Required)
- Towing Endorsement (Preferred)
- Radar Endorsement
- Merchant Marine Document
- STCW Endorsement (Preferred)
- TWIC Card (Required)
- FCC Radio License (Required)
- Vessel-Specific Training (May be Required)
- Current CG Physical Card (Required)
- Driver’s License & Passport (Preferred)
- Work Ethic & Attitude: Must be adaptable, dependable, and ready to work long hours in challenging conditions while maintaining a positive team mindset.
