What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian I position at Bering Strait School District?
The Custodian for the District Office contributes to the mission of the Bering Strait School District by ensuring a safe, clean, and organized space for district office staff to plan, develop, and finance programs designed to meet the educational needs of BSSD students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and maintain the District Office building: Clean and sanitize restrooms and stock with supplies. Vacuum offices, rooms, and halls. Empty and clean wastebaskets. Scrub walls and woodwork. Dust furniture, curtains, equipment, and flat surfaces once a week. Sweep and mop break room and clean countertops and tables.
- Maintain safety and security of the office building. Immediately notify supervisor of building damages, plumbing, and electrical problems. Make minor repairs to equipment, furniture, etc.
- Maintain the supply room and inventory. Keep tools and equipment secured and well maintained.
- Respond to staff requests. Be available for emergencies if needed. Assist in the daily activities of the Facilities/Maintenance Department.
- Oversee the District Office mail room. Keep mail room clean and organized. Collect outgoing mail from the mail tray, apply postage, and take mail to the post office to mail. Collect incoming BSSD mail from the post office and distribute to the appropriate department mail boxes.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND BEHAVIORS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current valid Driver License required.
- Previous related experience desirable.
- Must be prompt, dependable, and reliable.
- Able to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Able and willing to travel occasionally as necessary.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Operations Manager at the District Office
SALARY: Placement on the Classified Salary Schedule (DOE) plus Benefits
JOB TYPE: 12 months; Full-time
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday; Noon-8:00 PM
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of School Board policy.
