The Senior Underwriter for the Proprietary Lending Program (PLG) is responsible for analyzing and underwriting complex commercial real estate loan applications across various multifamily and seniors asset types. The primary duty is to assess whether the transaction and potential borrower present an acceptable level of risk.

The Senior Underwriter for the Proprietary Lending Program (PLG) is responsible for analyzing and underwriting complex commercial real estate loan applications across various multifamily and seniors asset types. The primary duty is to assess whether the transaction and potential borrower present an acceptable level of risk.
We Innovate to shape the future of CRE, so in this role you will:
- Critically review borrower credit information, third-party reports, and property financial and physical data to assess whether the borrower and property meet program requirements.
- Prepare underwriting narratives and independent cash flow value estimates for large, complex transactions, including multifamily and seniors bridge and construction loans.
- Present recommendations and key documentation (term sheets, applications, credit memos, etc.) to the appropriate approval committee, detailing the transaction’s strengths and weaknesses, discussing risks and mitigants and describing sponsorship experience and creditworthiness.
- Maintain consistent communication with the company's mortgage banking network and manage borrower clients through the approval and closing process.
- Collaborate with loan officers, loan closers, and legal counsel to facilitate loan requests through approval and ensure alignment with the major credit terms of the transaction.
- Conduct site inspections to evaluate the market competitiveness of proposed collateral and determine the economic feasibility of projected income streams.
- Participate in customer meetings and conference calls.
- Cross-train on the company's various products and exit strategies to enhance the ability to underwrite diverse deal types.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Exhibit exceptional credit judgment and decision-making skills, with proven technical expertise in underwriting, structuring, and closing complex transactions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and efficiently manage assignments to meet deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 5-7 years of experience in a similar position.
