Clinical Coordinator - Sterile Processing Technician & Surgical Technology Programs

Job Overview
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the placement and oversight of SPT & ST students during their clinical rotation(s).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinating the Clinical Experience of SPT & ST Students
- Process students' clinical clearance documentation to assure compliance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of clinical clearance.
- Conduct clinical orientation for students prior to clinical placement.
- Schedule/Coordinate student clinical hours and assignments.
- Monitor students’ case specialties.
- Verify weekly that students have met their clinical objectives.
- Perform weekly audits of student daily case logs and daily evaluations to assure current and accurate records.
- Weekly verification of case log entries into the cloud-based platform.
- In collaboration with the Program Chair verify the case logs completion at the end of each clinical rotation.
- In collaboration with the clinical preceptors ensure weekly and final evaluation of students’ progression during the clinical training are completed.
- Teach the lecture portion of the clinical practicum courses and maintain accurate attendance records.
- Act as liaison between the clinical affiliate staff and Berkeley College.
- Identify and secure new clinical affiliates as required by the programs.
- Maintain existing clinical affiliate sites and slots available for clinical instruction at each site.
- Document and maintain semester communications with all clinical affiliates, via clinical preplanning package, to relay important clinical information, (i.e.: upcoming schedule of clinical assignments, schedule changes, testing, documentation, etc.).
- Documented visits to all clinical sites on a regularly scheduled basis as approved by the Program Chair.
Other Internal Responsibilities:
- Attend selected local ST educational meetings and other appropriate Surgical Professional Society functions when not conflicting with school duties.
- Participate in all programs related events and ceremonies.
- Anticipate potential problems, plan and implement interventions to address each problem effectively.
- Demonstrate effective communications employing verbal, written, and electronic modalities.
- Assist the Program Chair with any assigned projects.
- Participate in College-sponsored faculty/or staff development activities.
- Incorporate instructional technology into department teaching and learning activities.
- Maintain currency with discipline.
- Ensure compliance with ARC/STSA and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Be conversant with college policies and procedures.
- Participate in departmental and School of Health Studies meetings.
- Participate in commencement activities.
- Participate in and support student activities.
· Comply with accreditor record retention guidelines by following the SHS record retention procedure and arranging for applicable work to be scanned.
Monitor student clinical case assignments and attendance at each clinical site.
- Advise students on clinical case completion.
- Utilize the learning management system to post comments on student assignments.
- Collect and assess clinical preceptor evaluations on all students.
- Audit clinical case logs, clinical evaluations, and other documentation for accuracy to determine appropriateness of clinical assignments.
- Marketing calls for the purpose of obtaining new clinical sites/slots.
- Provide weekly clinical reports to Chair, Allied Health-Surgical programs.
- Assess clinical documentation for completion.
- Monitor clinical schedule to assure students are completing assignments in compliance with current CAAHEP standards.
- Assurance that all students are progressing in their clinical training.
- Assurance that student's clinical assignments are current, and everyone is aware of student placement.
- Assurance that weekly clinical evaluations of student's performance are performed and properly documented.
· Status of students’ clinical clearance for upcoming semester.
- Submit semester goals and objectives to Program Chairs
- Attending the New Student Orientation.
- Submit open letters (also known as attestations) to all clinical sites notifying designated supervisors of clinical assignment schedules.
- Complete clinical placement schedule for students in Clinical I and Clinical II, and post in the application Clinical Coordinator folder in SharePoint.
- Maintain impeccable documentation of:
- Clinical Health Clearance reports
- Clinical I and II student schedules
- Verification of students’ case logs
- Documentation of students’ weekly and final evaluations
- Student Evaluation of Clinical Sites and Preceptors
- Verification of each clinical case log to include the scrub role and the specialty with:
- Student name, signature and date
- Clinical Preceptor signature and date
- Clinical Coordinator signature and date
- Anticipate and plan interventions for potential clinical problems
- Complete follow‐up Action Reports on all identified problems
- Maintain impeccable documentation on policies related to clinical training to include but not limited to:
- Policies for Clinical Rotation
- Clinical Probation
- Communication of Safety Considerations
- Clinical Make-Up Plan
- Collaborate with agency staff to obtain new clinical sites.
- Attend the advisory board meetings.
- Maintain the following reports in SharePoint:
- List of Clinical Affiliations (existing and new)
- Up‐to‐date list of clinical affiliates, clinical educators.
- Up‐to‐date list of sites to include the following information: name of the contact person, the clinical sites requirements for onboarding, the type of surgical cases performance at each clinical site.
Job Location
The position travels to the 3 NJ campuses and includes off-site visits to clinical sites.
Educational Requirements
· Be a graduate of an educational program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
· Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies NCC).
Training and/or Experience
· Have a minimum of three years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Knowledgeable in the objectives and competencies of the SPT & ST program curriculum and standards of accreditation.
· Possess knowledge of the curriculum.
· Possess knowledge about the program’s evaluation of student learning and performance.
Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
