THE BERKELEY COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS HIRING!

The Berkeley County Deputy Sheriff Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications for an entry level position as Deputy Sheriff , with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. Applications will be accepted until 5 : 00 PM on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with a subsequent Test Date on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

The information below relates to the position of applying for the position of Deputy Sheriff of Berkeley County.

Starting Salary Schedule :

52,466 with No Experience
54,187 upon graduation from the West Virginia State Police Academy
Up to $62,668 for West Virginia Pre-Certified Officers (based on years of service)

Minimum requirements :

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Must be a minimum of 18 years old

Must possess High School diploma or equivalent

Must be in excellent health (standard weight in proportion to height)

No criminal / police record

Must successfully pass all examinations administered by the Civil Service Commission

Must successfully pass a physical agility test comprised of the following challenges :

Sit-ups : 28 completed in one (1) minute

Push-ups : 18 completed in one (1) minute

Run : 1 ½ miles completed within 14 : 36 minutes / seconds

Must be willing to submit to additional examinations during hiring process, such as physiological evaluation and polygraph examination.

Must pass fitness standards for acceptance to the police academy.

Must successfully pass a medical examination.

Must attend and successfully complete all training as required.

Must be willing to accept duty assignments, which may include but are not limited to; K-9 Deputy, Judicial Security, School Resource Officer, and all other duties assigned by the Sheriff of Berkeley County.

A copy of additional requirements contained in the Local Rules of the Civil Service Commission is available from the Commission upon request.

Once hired, deputies may receive a take home vehicle, if, and ONLY IF, the individual resides within a 25-mile radius of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
