Job Description OPERATOR-IN-TRAINING in Wastewater Treatment Plant
Reports to: Operations and Maintenance Manager Date: July 2012
Department: Plant Operations Location: Any Treatment Plant Status: Support/Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
Position is primarily responsible for general equipment maintenance and cleaning duties that will
assist in overall successful operation of treatment plant. Will assist in maintaining equipment
according to schedules and keeping necessary records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for all lawn care and general housekeeping of inside and outside of plant.
Cleans all bar screens, grit channels and other treatment units as needed.
Operates sludge dewatering and disposal equipment.
Assists treatment plant operator in performing routine maintenance on treatment plant
equipment.
Operate equipment such as belt filter presses, tractors and manure spreaders.
Drive district trucks to transport sewage sludge to land application sites or the landfill.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as assigned.
May be required to perform the above duties at District locations other than assigned location.
Will be required to perform duties in all areas of the Wastewater Treatment Plant
Maintain a safe working environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS. AND ABILITIES:
Basic knowledge of equipment operation and repair.
Ability to drive manual transmission trucks, small dump trucks, farm tractors and manure
spreaders.
Must be willing to attend trainings to advance in Operator Classification level.
Ability to work effectively with both staff and management personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is on call during non-working hours as needed.
Required to lift and carry items up to 100 pounds on an irregular daily basis.
Requires unlimited physical ability with climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching, standing,
walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and repetitive motions.
Must possess normal hearing perception and visual acuity.
Worker will be subject to adverse conditions to include extreme heat, extreme cold, wind, rain,
snow, dust.
Worker will be subject to fumes, odors and excessive noise levels.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior general maintenance experience required.
Knowledge of wastewater treatment preferred.
Valid Driver's License required.
