Position Title:     Extra Duty Custodian III

Department:       Maintenance Department 

Reports To:         Director of Attendance and Executive Director of Maintenance

Pay Grade:          Time Sheet C payscale (Based on hourly rate as a Custodian III and years of experience-                                        minimum $15.14- maximum $23.86)

Start Date:          April 22, 2025

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

261 Days -  Time (6:00 am – 7:00 am) Every Monday and Thursday

 

SUMMARY:

Cleaning of the Maintenance buildings and grounds.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with supervisors and employees in the building.
  • Keeps assigned work area neat at all times.
  • Vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, mops, waxes, polishes, and scrubs floor surfaces on an as needed basis.
  • Cleans and dusts furnishings
  • Washes windows inside and outside of the building and mirrors as time permits
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms
  • Cleans all breakrooms and kitchenettes
  • Keeps cleaning equipment clean and in proper operating condition.
  • Collects trash and places it in trash collection receptacles
  • Moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Sets up and tears down for special events.
  • Clean/sanitize all meeting areas as needed.
  • Shovels snow as needed from sidewalks.
  • Applies sand and ice melting materials to sidewalks as needed.
  • Reports items that are in need of repair.
  • Order all cleaning supplies needed.
  • Assures that exterior doors are locked in accordance to the building schedules, all doors and windows are secure, and lights and equipment are shut off, alarm is set
  • Keeps grounds free of trash
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Pass WV Minimum Objective and Performance School Competency Exam for Custodian

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs . The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

EVALUATION: Job performance is evaluated in accordance to district guidelines by the building supervisor.

 

Special note: 

  • Essential personnel in a state of emergency include custodians who may be required to report to work at the discretion of the superintendent or his designee.
  • May be required to work an alternative work schedule when school is not in session or when staff/students are not present for instruction purposes.
