Position Overview :

Here at Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital, we have been providing our clients and their beloved pets with advanced and compassionate veterinary care since 1907. We are dedicated to providing the best possible service to our patients and are looking for like minded individuals to join our general practice team.

Responsibilities :

Assist veterinarians with appointments scheduled for the day
Assist veterinarians in providing medical care to animals
Perform routine procedures such as obtaining vitals, vaccinations, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, running in-house bloodwork, calculate drug doses
Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
Monitor and record vital signs of animals during procedures and treatments
Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
Take radiographs of patients and sending them for review
Assist in dental cleanings with extractions under the supervision of a veterinarian with the dental technician
Provide animal restraint during examinations and procedures
Collect and process laboratory samples for testing
Maintain accurate medical records for all patients

Ability to multitask and problem solve

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Compassionate and caring attitude towards animals and co-workers

Ability to handle stressful situations with calmness and professionalism

Requirements :

Hold a valid CA RVT License

High school diploma required; Associates in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Technology preferred

Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician

Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, emergency procedures, anesthesia, and pharmacology

Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment

Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time

Must be able to multi-task and pay attention to detail

Must be able to problem solve

Must be able to work in a team as a positive team player

Experience :

Fear-free handling preferred

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician or equivalent education / training

Experience with proper restraint techniques

Knowledge of veterinary medicine and animal physiology

Familiarity with veterinary terminology and laboratory procedures

Education :

High School Diploma required, Associates Degree in Animal Science or Veterinary Technology preferred.

Job Type : Full-time

Pay : $24.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected Schedule : Monday to Friday 8 : 30am to 5 : 00pm
