Founded in 1960, Berkeley Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational, Episcopal affiliated college preparatory school with a current enrollment of 1,400 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Upper Division Dean of Students- Grades 11-12
The Upper Division (UD) has an opening for a full-time Dean of Students for Grades 11-12 for the 2025-26 school year. This is a significant leadership position that sits on the UD administrative team and reports to the Assistant Director of the UD. The Dean of Students for Grades 11-12 works closely with several other colleagues to support, nurture and hold students accountable to high standards so that they may continue their development towards being their best selves.
Major responsibilities include:
  • oversee student discipline and accountability
  • support the personal growth and development of each student
  • develop and implement student life programming, retreats, etc.
  • help mentor student leaders
  • be highly visible and interactive each day
  • support faculty in working with and managing students

Strong candidates will have most of the following:
  • significant independent school experience as a teacher, coach, advisor, etc.
  • experience developing student life programming (retreats, activities, etc.)
  • experience navigating challenging conversations with students, parents, and colleagues
  • a desire to proactively develop relationships with students, and to be a full participant in the broader life of the school community
  • a desire to help implement the Leadership Academy at Berkeley
  • a growth mindset and ability to collaborate
  • find genuine enjoyment working with students ages 16-18
Compensation and Benefits:
The appointment is available July 1, 2025, and is a full-time, salary, exempt position and eligible for full benefits. The compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, certification attainment, and the national independent school and college markets.
