Berklee College of Music invites applications for a full-time faculty member in the Contemporary Writing and Production Department . The department provides an innovative curriculum in contemporary composition, arranging and music production to approximately 500 students in the Contemporary Writing and Production Major, as well as Core Music instruction in music writing and arranging for all students at Berklee College of Music.

This full-time position reports to the Chair of Contemporary Writing and Production in the Professional Writing and Music Technology Division. The ideal candidate will be an experienced contemporary composer and arranger and a dedicated teacher who will actively contribute to the department and the Berklee community.

Primary responsibilities for this position will include: teaching upper-level composition, arranging and production courses in the Contemporary Writing and Production concentrate that incorporate advanced writing concepts and techniques in a variety of contemporary music styles, with an emphasis on large acoustic and hybrid ensembles; working one-on-one with senior CWP students as they prepare their writing and production graduation portfolio and transition to their professional careers in the music industry; supervise readings and recording sessions of student projects as part of the course requirements; contribute to the curriculum development to reflect the changes in the music industry. This is a 9-month full-time faculty position with a renewable contract, with the initial appointment to begin on September 1, 2022 . Compensation is commensurate with professional experience.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Significant past and current professional experience as an active composer, arranger, conductor and producer in a variety of contemporary music styles, with an emphasis on writing for orchestra and large acoustic and hybrid ensembles, including vocals, horns, strings and rhythm section;

  • Proficiency in music notation and professional-quality score and parts preparation;

  • High-level skills in music production using current music software and DAW;

  • Teaching experience in composing and arranging contemporary music and music technology;

  • Master Degree in Music or equivalent professional experience;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

  • A willingness to adhere to a structured curriculum and to develop course content and supplemental materials;

  • An interest in working in a diverse workplace with a multicultural multi-talented student body.
