Responsibilities
Being an Intern in our SRE Team provides a highly motived and qualified student(s) an opportunity to gain first-hand experience into what it’s like to be a Site Reliability Engineer. Also, get to explore & learn on what it takes to build out the Site Reliability Engineering strategy and implementation for both on premise platforms and cloud applications.
Collaborate closely with teams and learn to set and enforce best practices, ensure scalability, reliability, and security.
Get to interact with all levels of management and senior leaders and gain insight into business and technology in the insurance industry.
Build & develop a strong understanding of the entire technology stack (network, storage, OS, virtualization, database, development, applications) to observe, monitor, troubleshoot, and automate activity/tasks in the Berkley environment

Build & develop a strong understanding of the entire technology stack (network, storage, OS, virtualization, database, development, applications) to observe, monitor, troubleshoot, and automate activity/tasks in the Berkley environment
- SRE Monitoring and Automation: Get hands-on experience with scripting & SQL to automate SRE monitoring & observability.
- Define, and track SRE reliability and observability OKRs. This includes defining and tracking Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs).
- Implement robust monitoring and alerting systems to proactively monitor health, identify potential issues, analyze system performance, and facilitate quick response to incidents.
- Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks in applications and infrastructure to improve efficiency and user experience.
- Work closely with incident management team to quickly address and resolve system outages or performance issues to minimize downtime and impact on users.
- Collaborate actively with development and operations teams to implement observability and resiliency requirements in order to ensure smooth deployment and operation of software systems.
- Research: Conduct research on emerging SRE monitoring and observability tools for SLO, SLI & Error budget.
- Documentation: Document problems and resolutions for future reference, as well as platform configurations and standards.
- Communication: Maintain excellent communication skills, particularly across functional technical areas. Demonstrated ability to communicate with technical and non-technical individuals and teams.
- Muti-tasking/Prioritization: Proven track record of working in a fast paced and dynamic production environment managing multiple priorities.
- Interest in learning scripting languages like PowerShell, JavaScript, Typescript
- Basic knowledge of or experience with SQL preferred
- Familiarity with Tools: Git, GitHub, Git Bash, Ansible, Terraform is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and applications quickly.
- Excellent communication, time management, organization, and planning skills.
- Completed 1-2 years of your major program
- Strong passion for technology and Automation.
- Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking and quantitative skills with ability to navigate MS Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
- Prior internship, co-op, or on or off-campus technical experience preferred, but not required
- Works well in a team environment and productive without constant supervision
