Responsibilities
The Technical Development Specialist is accountable for the coordination of the technical development of internal staff and external partners through collaboration with underwriting leadership, training and development, and partner management. You are responsible for orienting new underwriting staff on systems and general appetite, assisting in the oversight of our EDGE team, and onboarding new agent partners. In addition, you will work with partner management to develop and implement on-site agent educational programs as part of a coordinated partnership with our agent’s own training and development programs.
- Assist the Underwriting Manager, EDGE and UW support in overseeing the EDGE team through file review and work product feedback to ensure underwriting standards and performance objectives are met. Support Senior Underwriter, Team Leads to ensure consistent and in-depth feedback is provided during on-the-desk training.
- Recruit and interview potential EDGE trainee and intern candidates. Travel to various college campuses and industry career fairs will be required.
- Onboard and train new underwriting staff on the Nautilus systems and general underwriting appetite. Coordinate with underwriting management to develop a training calendar ensuring new hires are familiar with Nautilus’ staff, leadership, procedures, and systems.
- Direct the internship program at Nautilus through development of program schedule, technical training track, and engagement with various Nautilus staff outside of the underwriting division. Oversee their day-to-day experience to ensure interns are engaged and developing.
- Lead on-site agent technical engagement initiatives in partnership with Leader of Partner Management including development of technical curriculum, identifying topics for discussion, and exposure to other departments including claims, finance, actuarial, operations, and marketing.
- Aid underwriting staff in the onboarding of new agent users or new agents to familiarize them with Nautilus systems and underwriting appetite including creating a technical pathing for new agent users in Nautilus University including introduction to the Nautilus appetite, systems and general underwriting philosophy.
- Represent the department, as requested by Senior Leaders, in internal or external meetings, events, or committees.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or 2 years related commercial P&C insurance underwriting and management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Work experience in an underwriting and training division required
- Excess and surplus lines background strongly preferred.
- CPCU, ASLI, AIC, or completion of other insurance-related classes is preferred.
