What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Scheduler position at Berks Schuylkill Respiratory Specialists?
SUMMARY
A nonexempt position responsible for making appointments for patients following medical practice procedures. Tasks may be integrated into another position, e.g., medical receptionist check-in/ check-out.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedules appointments for patients either by phone when they call in or in person after an office visit.
- Uses computerized system to match physician availability with patient?s preferences in terms of date and time.
- Maintains scheduling system so records are accurate and complete and can be used to analyze patient/staffing patterns.
- Ensures that updates (cancellations or additions) are input daily into master schedule.
- Communicates as need with physicians and other staff about any patient concern/issues related to scheduling.
- Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly. Promptly and professionally answer telephone calls. Routes calls appropriately, offering voice mail, paging, or redirection of calls as needed.
- Greets patients and visitors and assists them as appropriate. Phones or pages employees to meet patients or visitors, directs patients and visitors to appropriate waiting area, and appropriately and courteously screen solicitors for relevance to organizational needs.
- Participation in scheduled staff in-services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
