Job Description
The engineer- generation, provides technical work and directs others in technical work in the planning, designing, procurement and construction of additions, changes or maintenance to Walter Scott Energy Center. The engineer will also provide assistance to engineering staff on higher-level projects. Additionally, this position monitors and reports unit heat rates at the coal fired power plant. Performs testing on power plant equipment such as boilers, turbines, condensers, pumps, heat exchangers and coal mills. Makes recommendations for equipment repairs and modifications that will improve unit performance, improve unit availability and reduce unit emission. Completes cost estimates and savings resulting from maintenance activities related to unit performance. Responsible for completing annual capacity testing and coal pile inventories. Maintains on-line performance monitoring software. Reviews and analyzes data relating to all aspects of power plant performance.
Responsibilities
Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions or maintenance to Walter Scott Energy Center's generation system. (40%)
Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (25%)
Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports. (15%)
Provide engineering assistance to other departments. (15%)
Attend training in designated areas. (5%)
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. Mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers preferred.
One to three years of engineering experience required for the engineer 2 position.
Five years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE required for the senior engineer position. If no PE license then must have eight or more years as a practicing engineer.
High level of technical knowledge, judgment and capability in the engineering discipline.
Effective communicator with technical and managerial personnel within and external to MidAmerican Energy Company. Broad analytical skills. Advanced project management skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
