Job Description
This position operates the transmission system to meet daily supply, transportation and delivery requirements in a safe, efficient and reliable manner under fluctuating conditions.
Responsibilities
Monitors and operates the pipeline system to meet customer's gas flow requirements while adhering to required contract, tariff and regulatory requirements.
Monitor and control the pipeline systems of Northern Natural Gas via data acquisition systems (SCADA) and extensive telephone communications.
Monitor pressures, line pack, receipt and deliveries to maximize throughput efficiency.
Determine system requirements and changes to mainline pressures and volumes to maintain delivery to customers and other pipelines. Manage operational balancing agreements (OBA) on a daily and monthly basis.
Communicate with field operations personnel to keep abreast of situations requiring action or assistance, i.e., loss of production, gas quality problems and DAS problems, horsepower and pipeline outages.
Maintain a shift events log.
Coordinate pipeline / horsepower outages by using real-time pipeline model.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Position will perform Operations Communications Center duties as assigned.
Position will require vacation coverage for the operations communications center.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED or equivalent education.
Zero to two years of related experience - Gas Controller I.
Two to four years of related experience - Gas Controller II.
Two years of operations experience desirable, which includes familiarity with Northern Natural Gas compressor stations or gas supply operations.
Ability to function well in a fast paced environment.
Effective PC skills, proficient in Excel, Word, Access a plus.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Controls and measurement experience a plus.
Pipeline flow study modeling experience, a plus.
Position requires working a 12-hour rotating shift. (unit provides 24 hour, 365-day service.)
Occasional overtime on short notice.
