What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Bill Analyst position at Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies?
Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, has an opening in our Legal Bill Review team for an Analyst to assist with accurate review and entry of legal invoices for the Claims department. This individual will ensure billed amounts are accurate and adjusted per applicable rules, correct firm assignment, and complete processing for timely payment.
\n- Reviews legal bills in accordance with Company guidelines relating to legal billing, including maximum fees prohibited services, duplicate billing, and excessive charges.
- Ensures invoices are appropriately routed to e-billing platform or other appropriate department.
- Distinguishes between different categories of legal services, including services relating to the case in chief, special investigations, and recovery.
- Maintains positive professional working relationship between the Company and law firms while protecting the Company's financial interest through the legal bill review process.
- Ensures the data integrity of all information relating to legal billing in the legal bill review software and claims management software applications.
- Maintains expertise on the Company's legal bill review rules and processes, the operation of the legal bill review software application, industry developments relating to legal services and billing, and developments in the legal profession that impact legal billing practices.
- Participates as assigned in meetings and initiatives aimed at analyzing or improving legal and claims management practices.
- Timely advises supervisor of significant issues or developments relating to legal billing and legal services.
- Performs special assignments and projects as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and/or Paralegal certification required.
- Certifications: Paralegal certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of related experience or training required, preferably with a focus in legal billing, legal bill review, or experience in workers compensation industry.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications and able to quickly master proprietary and vendor software applications.
- Language Ability: Able to read and interpret complex documents including legal bills, legal opinions, legal letters, legal briefs, claim notes, and claim data fields. Able to write clear, concise reports accurately conveying technical information. Able to effectively present information to management and external vendors.
- Math Ability: Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Reasoning Ability: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
