Job Opportunity:
At Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance our claims professionals are an integral part of our business. The surety claim professionals interact with the entire surety team supporting the business goals and as well as contributing on a strategic level. We are seeking an experienced professional to be part of our surety team supporting our growing business.
In this role, the Surety Claims Technician will report directly to the Global Head of Surety Claims and have an opportunity to assist the Claims Team with the intake of Surety claims and management of the Surety Claims application in a highly collaborative team environment dedicated to best in class service. The position is open to candidates who can work in our Atlanta or Boston office.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Act as the gate keeper and triage surety notices and claims. Review and identify scanned mail for appropriate assignment to Examiners.
- Assist in claim assignment and conduct necessary research to facilitate claim set up. Interact with claims operations to ensure appropriate claim set up and data integrity.
- Assist in the continued development of Surety Claim application, document management and procedures/protocols for claim document management.
- Assist in maintenance of data integrity within Surety Claims Application.
- Use of Underwriting database to properly identify Account and Bond.
- Develop and maintain Claimant database in Surety Claims application.
- Develop and maintain Account and Broker contacts for Surety Claims application.
- Develop and maintain Co-Surety contacts for Surety Claims application. Review and enter Co-Surety bond information into Surety Claims application.
- Assist with document production in litigation discovery matters.
- Assist in creating and managing reporting to aid in claim handling, account management and communications with management.
- Handle physical mailing of necessary Claim correspondence.
Qualifications, Skills, & Experience:
- 3 plus years’ experience in insurance claims or related fields.
- Surety or construction experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to balance competing priorities and proactively manage workload.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with data entry and documentation management systems. Database management/experience is a plus.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Ability to judge when to act independently and when to refer situations to a supervisor.
- A willingness to learn, develop and ask questions.

The base salary range for this position is from $50,000 – $60,000 along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s actual salary is commensurate with experience as determined by their relevant skills, experience, and geographical location.
