Position: School Adjustment Counselor – Grades 5-8
W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School
Requirements:
Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field with Massachusetts Certification or Certifiable as School Counselor/Social Worker.
W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School is seeking a compassionate and skilled School Adjustment Counselor to join our middle school team. The Counselor will provide emotional, behavioral and social support to students, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges. The ideal candidate will have experience working with middle school-level adolescents and be committed to fostering a positive, supportive and inclusive environment for all students.
Qualifications:
Strong understanding of adolescent development and common behavioral or emotional issues in middle school students; Proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff and families; Excellent communication, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. Demonstrated experience working in a school or community-based setting is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of current counseling strategies, interventions, and best practices. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Other qualificatrions as established by the District. Key Responsibilities: Provide individual and group counseling to students dealing with academic, social, and emotional difficulties. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student development and academic success. Develop and implement strategies for students who are struggling with behavior, attendance or adjustment to school. Facilitate classroom interventions to promote well-being, social skills and positive behavior. Assist crisis intervention and offer support during times of personal or family hardship. Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress. Participate in student support teams and case management meetings to plan interventions and track progress. Organize and lead workshops or group counseling on topics such as stress management, bullying prevention and conflict resolution. Advocate for students and help them access resources within the school or the community.
