Job Summary
The Staff Chaplain provides spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, staff and physicians through routine and crisis ministry. The Chaplain acts as an integral part of the healthcare delivery team, offering spiritual support as part of holistic healing. The Chaplain ministers particularly in crises, with dying patients and their families, and at times of death. The Chaplain represents the Spiritual Care Department within the organization and in the community. The Chaplain functions as a liaison with area clergy and faith congregations to facilitate ministry to their congregants. The Chaplain organizes and trains volunteer clergy and laity for various religious ministries. Special services and activities are organized and/or led by the Chaplain as needed. The Chaplain offers Spiritual Care Ministry, as needed, on off-site campuses, such as the Cancer Center, and facilitates. Spirituality Groups throughout the health system on a weekly basis and as requested.
Experience
- Experienced Chaplain with strong interfaith commitment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team and physicians.
- Experience in planning and management to keep BMC up to date in chaplaincy, holistic health and ethics.
- Strong verbal and written skills.
- Competence in computer use for charting in the medical record and statistics.
Education
- Master's degree in Divinity, Theology, Spirituality, or related field required.
- Proven pastoral skills in parish, healthcare, or other settings required.
- Clinical Pastoral Education training minimum of two CPE units required; four units preferred Highly encourage to work toward completion of 4 CPE units after hired.
License & Certifications
- CHAPLIN-Certification College of Chaplains or NACC (National Association of Catholic Chaplains) or National Association of Jewish Chaplains or other recognized endorsing bodies. (Preferred)
Additional Requirements
- Sufficient physical health and strength to fulfill the ministry requirements.
- Capacity to represent the Spiritual Care Department to the wider community.
- Respect and understanding of other faith traditions.
- Competence in using phone, FAX, copy machine, and other equipment.
Schedule:
- Variable hours
- Variable days
- No weekends or holidays
- 2- 7hour shifts and 1- 6 hour day shift
