Position Overview:
We are looking for an inspiring and skilled Director of Music Performance to lead and shape the performance aspect of our programs. This position involves guiding participants in their musical journeys, developing performance opportunities, and fostering a vibrant, supportive, and professional performance culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Band Development: Assess and cultivate musicians, nurture talent and build additional cohesive musical groups and bands.
- Gala & Concert Coordination: Organize and manage larger-scale performances, including annual galas, concerts, and community showcases.
- Gig Management: Schedule and oversee performances at external events, ensuring smooth logistics, staff support coverage, and meaningful experiences.
- Performance Curriculum & Musicianship: Design and implement a curriculum focused on developing participants' musical skills, professionalism, and stage presence.
- Auditions & Rehearsals: Lead auditions and direct rehearsals for BHMA premiere band, preparing musicians for high-profile performances. Build a solid repertoire of performance-ready pieces.
- Admissions & Recruitment: Collaborate with the admissions team to identify and attract prospective participants with a high degree of musicality.
Other duties:
- Student Support: Foster an encouraging environment where participants feel motivated to explore their musical potential.
- Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with staff to align programming with participants’ goals and abilities.
- Community Engagement: Build relationships with local organizations and venues to create performance opportunities and expand BHMA’s presence in the community.
- Administrative Activities: hiring and training staff, budget management, and reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience leading music ensembles and organizing performances.
- High degree of music and performance professionalism.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
- Dedication to working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities.

Pay: $67,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
