What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Paraprofessional position at Berlin Memorial School?
General Duties:
•To participate effectively as part of a team in the provision of services to students
•To demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with student and team members
•To demonstrate work habits that encourage student independence, foster appropriate student interdependence and enhance student self-image
•Maintain student confidentiality
•Share relevant information about learners with teachers and other school personnel as needed to facilitate problem-solving, decision making and program planning
•Support the implementation of instructional programs designed by teachers to facilitate learning activities
•Engage individual and small groups of learners in instructional activities
•Assist teachers with functional assessment activities to aid in documentation of learner strengths and needs, to include the collection and reporting of data as needed
•Implement strategies developed by teachers that support an inclusive environment and respect individual differences, among learners, families, and staff
•Carry out behavior management plans as needed
•Assist teachers with the preparation of learning resources
•Assist teachers with modifying learning strategies and activities to accommodate different learning styles, abilities, preferences and other learning needs
•Maintain an awareness and familiarity with student IEPs and learning plans
•Maintain an awareness and familiarity with the characteristics of varying disabilities
•Maintain an awareness and familiarity with school and classroom routines
•Any other tasks as assigned by administration
Job Goal:
To work under the direction of the classroom teacher and special educator to provide instructional and behavioral support to students as needed. Such support shall be provided but not limited to services to students with IEPs, 504 plans, and district curriculum accommodation plans.
Qualifications:
•Evidence of highly qualified status through the provision of transcripts documenting 48 credit hours earned at an institution of higher education or
• Associate degree (or higher degree) or a passing grade on the Para-Pro Test.
•Experience in working with children, preferably within an educational setting
