Position Summary
- Responsible for data entry of daily billing charges from multiple clinics
- Send electronic billing through clearinghouse
- Re-bill and appeal claim based on payer rejections and denials received
- Assist referral department as needed
- Review account status on the aging report. Contact patients directly to resolve overdue accounts
- Receive patient inquires via phone or email. Must be able to handle and resolve patient complaints in a professional manner
- Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety
- Ensure complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information
- Assemble information concerning patient's clinical background and referral needs. Per referral guidelines, provide appropriate clinical information to specialist.
- Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior authorization requirements are met. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis and prognosis. Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and physicians.
- Review details and expectations about the referral with patients.
- Ensure that referrals are addressed in a timely manner.
- Remind patients of scheduled appointments via e-mail or phone.
- Perform related tasks and assignments as necessary
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1-year experience in medical billing/collections
- Must be familiar with PPO, HMO, and Medicare coding guidelines
- Must be familiar with surgical and procedural global periods
- Working knowledge of billing software (Nextech software experience a plus)
- Reliable and Dedicated Work Ethic -- good attendance is a must
- Ability to work as an Integral part of a team
- Quick and accurate keyboarding skills
- Calm professional manner; self-motivated
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (primarily Word and Excel) is required.
