Position Details
This is an unpaid volunteer position, requiring 4-8 hours of work per week in our gift shop. We offer flexible scheduling and a relaxed atmosphere.
Job Summary
The Gift Shop Volunteer will be responsible for assisting customers in a friendly and professional manner, processing sales, and maintaining the general upkeep of the shop.
Major Job Functions
- Hours are dependent on volunteer availability.
- Provide excellent customer service by being friendly and outgoing, and helping customers locate merchandise.
- Reliable volunteers may be required to open and close the shop on some days.
- Familiarize yourself with and follow hospital confidentiality policies.
- Comfortable handling sales, making change, counting the cash drawer, and using the Point of Sale system on an iPad.
- Be comfortable answering the Gift Shop phone and taking orders/sales over the phone.
- Perform light cleaning tasks such as wiping down displays, straightening displays, and emptying trash.
- Able to react appropriately in emergency situations or when dealing with difficult customers.

Education Requirements
No prior experience is necessary; all training will be provided. Prior experience in Customer Service is helpful.

- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Proficiently uses Touch Screen Register, makes change, and answers phone.
- Excellent human relations skills, demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
- Must possess a high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility, and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
Job Requirements
- Duties require normal vision and hearing for both telephone/customer service and computer work.
- The Gift Shop Associate is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, and is required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- The Gift Shop Associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Position involves sitting in one position for prolonged periods.
