The classification will perform a variety of job duties to assist with the maintenance and clean up of roadway right-of-way and road medians. Will provide graffiti cleanup.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: mowing, trimming, chipping, watering, digging, drip system repair, sprinkler repair, fence repair, maintenance of existing landscapes, planting, landscaped medians, trails within roadway landscaping.
2. Assist other maintenance crews with thinning and pruning of trees, shrubs, flower beds and weeding.
3. Maintain a written work order log on all projects and submit progress reports on request.
4. Provide before and after picture of each project.
5. Maintain record keeping procedures in adherence with appropriate regulations and standards.
6. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on various surfaces such as concrete or plaster holes and cracks with various means.
7. Assist with the removal of snow or ice along sidewalks and other pedestrian facilities.
8. Set up appropriate traffic control when working along active roadway.
9. Operate ground maintenance equipment and graffiti removal equipment utilized in performing daily duties such as but not limited to; vehicles, trailers, sprayers, power driven tools and equipment utilized in the performance of duties.
10. Perform daily safety maintenance inspection duties to include cleaning and maintaining painting tools, graffiti removal equipment, grounds equipment or other assigned equipment.
11. If equipment is found to be inoperable and a safety hazard, document and report to supervisor or designee.
12. Prepare surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, sanding, sand-blasting or other means necessary.
13. Prepare, match, blend enamels, lacquers, varnishes, stains and special protective coatings to achieve desired color, consistency and drying properties.
14. Paint assigned buildings, structures, equipment and furniture or any assigned surface utilizing a brush, roller, spray gun or other paint applicator appropriate for the surface.
15. Perform basic sign painting functions utilizing stencils.
16. Remove old paint with solvents, paint thinners or paint removal equipment.
17. During a County declared emergency, this position will be required to respond.
18. Anyone position may not include all the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
PREFERENCES
General landscape maintenance and painting experience preferred.
Experience operating small power tools, hand tools and landscape maintenance equipment preferred.
Experience in painting, general maintenance work or related field preferred.
Experience working with bubblers & irrigation systems preferred.
Experience working with different types of plants, drought resistant landscaping plants and shrubbery preferred.
Experience working with low voltage landscaping systems (telemetry and testing devices), manifolds, and backflow preventers preferred.
Traffic Control Technician certification preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain while employed in this position.
Must possess Traffic Control Technician certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Work is performed outdoors, with exposure to natural weather conditions.
Worker is exposed to snow, wind, possible lightening, and extreme cold and heat.
Worker is exposed to occasional noise and vibration factors in the operation of equipment.
Worker is exposed to dust, fumes, and mists.
Work is performed on even and uneven terrain. Surfaces may be wet, dry, natural ground or paved. Work may be performed on inclines and occasionally on ladders.
Work hazards include exposure to dust, chemicals such as solvents, gases, pre-emergent weed control, exposure to severe weather conditions, heavy lifting, working on potentially scaffolding, slick surfaces and ladders and using power equipment.
Works as part of a crew and under close supervision.
Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule.
Working along shoulder or within median of active traffic.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS
Utilizes the following tools and equipment: camera, two-way radio, scaffolding, ladders, power washer, paint sprayer, air compressor, generator, weed eater, mowing equipment, pruning shears, chipper, and assorted hand tools utilized in landscaping maintenance.
Gloves, goggles, boots, dust masks, earplugs and occasionally respirators are utilized in performance of essential duties.
Operates County vehicle in the performance of essential duties.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS
Must have the ability to ask questions of foreman listen to and follow verbal and written directions in English.
Must have the ability to communicate verbally with co-workers.
Must have the ability to apply knowledge of use of tools, equipment and materials in a safe manner in the performance of essential duties.
PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
Must have the ability to stand and/or walk up to four hours at one time, and up to eight hours total per day.
Must be able to lift to 100 pounds occasionally from ground to waist level. Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently from ground to shoulder level.
Must have the ability to bend at waist and twist/rotate waist if necessary for up to one-half of workday.
Must have the ability to crouch and kneel frequently.
Must have the ability to work with arms extended and bent for up to four hours at one time, and seven and one-half hours total per day.
Must have the ability to push/pull with arms with a force of up to 50 plus pounds.
Must have the ability to climb ladders and work from ladders and scaffolding.
Must have the ability to coordinate use of hands and eyes in performance of essential duties.
Must have the ability to distinguish colors of paints.
