Construction Inspector will monitor the inspection, testing, and evaluation of roadways, bridges, buildings, and utility systems for the purpose of maintaining safety and effectiveness of operation. Monitor testing of water pumping systems, electronic controls, and pressurized pipe systems. Prepare daily and monthly reports of specific work performed, progress, quality, and estimated cost of work performed. Compare for purposes of assessing compliance with the pay schedule and the initiation of partial payments to contractors and vendors.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Monitor the inspection of roads, bridges, drainage facilities, buildings, underground utilities, and other similar construction to ensure that work quality and progress are maintained according to prescribed schedules and specifications.
2. Monitor the testing of water pumping systems, electronic controls, and pressurized pipe systems.
3. Prepare daily and monthly reports of the specific work performed, and in particular, the progress, quality, and estimated cost of the work performed in comparison to the work schedule for purposes of assessing compliance with that schedule, and the initiation of partial payments to contractors and vendors.
4. Display a thorough knowledge of City of Albuquerque Standards and Specifications and the New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department Standards and Specifications.
5. Perform construction inspection and observation of highway and/or bridge construction work for compliance with Bernalillo County plans, specifications and contract documents; Work includes but is not limited to inspection of earthwork, hot mix asphalt, concrete structures, concrete placements, base course, subgrade, guardrail, culverts and drainage structures, curb and gutter, sidewalk, lighting, signals, striping, utilities, and traffic control.
6. Interpret plans, specifications and contract documents to verify contract compliance.
7. Prepare daily work reports; prepare and maintain documentation of contractor work performed; materials testing and traffic control based on construction plans and specifications using the IPM Construction Management System, spreadsheets, or other electronic or manual means.
8. Perform sampling and testing of concrete in conformance with TTCP specifications and procedures.
9. Perform moisture/density testing of soils, base course and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) in conformance with BernCo/NMDOT Specifications and procedures using a portable moisture/density gauge.
10. Perform sampling of soils, base course, aggregates and HMA in conformance with NMDOT specifications and procedures.
11. Document work item quantities accepted and approved for payment; report pay quantities using BernCo's IPM Construction Management Software; prepare and review reports and documentation
12. Verify contractor compliance with project safety procedures; Inspect and document contractor traffic control set-ups
13. Performs other job related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED, and four (4) years of work experience in general construction, testing of roadways, earthworks, underground utilities, culverts, bridges and other public works facilities, or related field.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
2. Employee must comply with the County’s Safety Policy requirements.
3. Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver’s license while employed in this position.
4. Employee must maintain all required certifications.
5. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
6. Must attain the following certification(s) within nine (9) months of employment: Approved Nuclear densometer certification and approved concrete field testing certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Duties are performed primarily outdoors which entails exposure to extremes of weather conditions.
2. Indoor duties are performed in a temperature controlled environment on an even carpeted or tiled surface.
3. Outdoor duties may be performed on both even and uneven surfaces which may be either wet or dry. Surfaces may be inclined or flat, and range from natural undisturbed soil to gravel, asphalt, or concrete.
4. May perform duties alone or as part of a group.
5. Work hazards or potential work hazards include, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, mists, chemicals and severe weather conditions; driving of vehicles; working in and around heavy equipment; and performing duties on rough terrain.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
1. Telephone, two-way radio, calculator/adding machine, testing and measuring devices, photocopier, fax machine, paper forms, and writing instruments are used in performance of duties.
2. County vehicle is used by employee in traveling from site-to-site throughout the County.
3. Safety vest and hardhat are used by worker in performance of outdoor duties.
