DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops, organizes and implements environmental education initiatives and outreach programs such as litter prevention, waste reduction, beautification, green waste events, illegal dumping site education, Household Hazardous Waste disposal program and recycling to schools, citizens, agencies, businesses, industry, and other groups.
2. Conduct classroom presentations; speak before audiences, responds to inquires about recycling and other waste reduction programs.
3. Provide presentations to routinely engage with members of the public, community groups, neighborhood/homeowner’s associations, schools and businesses to promote recycling waste reduction and utilization of solid waste services.
4. Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating all volunteer-intensive programs for Keep BernCo Beautiful (KBB) and is responsible for recruitment, training, supervising, recognition and retention of KBB volunteers.
5. Responsible for evaluating, monitoring, record keeping and supervision of KBB initiatives regarding Adopt-an-Area.
6. Responsible for communicating, gathering data, reports, and entering data into the Keep America Beautiful web portal hub.
7. Responsible for attending and manning any booths, displays, County sponsored function or events promoting the solid waste initiatives/program.
8. Identifies, applies and administers financial grant and other related processes in accordance with grant guidelines, policies and procedures.
9. Responsible for the development of and adherence to program timelines and budgets.
10. Responsible for staff hiring, training and development; performance evaluations; timekeeping; and corrective actions and other staffing/supervisory related matters in accordance with policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreement(s).

11. Plans, organizes and coordinates special events that help keep the community clean, such as Bernalillo County Community Clean-ups, America Recycle Day, Great American Clean-up and related events as assigned.
12. Interacts and communicates with Solid Waste staff, County departments and various public groups on issues related to waste reduction principles.
13. Resident education of County Ordinance in regard to their responsibility to maintain a weed free setback area (including alleyways) surrounding their property.
14. Represents County at community events, participates in presentations and special events on weekends, nights, and during non-regular hours.
15. Writes or revises program summary reports, public education pieces and develops public communication strategies in co0rdination with appropriate County staff.
16. Performs research and analysis, including cost projections, annual program budget projections and national trends.
17. Performs data analysis in order to identify trends, develop reports and recommendations on policy decisions.
18. Interprets/explains policies, processes, applicable laws, rules, regulations and guidelines specific to an assigned program to resolve problems, answer program questions and provides information to current and potential program participants.
19. May serve in a lead capacity as needed.
20. Incumbent may coordinate one or more specialized programs.
21. Provide public education and outreach on solid waste programs and initiatives including curbside recycling, commercial recycling, litter prevention, reduce illegal dumping, proper household hazardous waste disposal and waste reduction principles.
22. Responsible for maintaining Bernalillo County affiliation with Keep America Beautiful (KAB) organization.
23. Provide support to the Keep BernCo Beautiful (KBB) advisory board.
24. Attend and man any booths, displays, county sponsored function or events promoting the solid waste initiatives/program.
25. Incumbent(s) in this classification may handle sensitive and/or confidential records, plans, documents or decisions that require maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
26. Any one position may not include all duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent performing the essential duties listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two (2) years of work experience as it pertains to the purpose of the positions. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
4. Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
5. Depending on assignment, some positions in this classification may require possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain while employed in this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. All essential duties are performed mostly indoors, with some positions performing functions in an outdoor and field setting.
2. Duties are performed in a temperature controlled environment.
3. Duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tile.
4. Working surface is typically dry. Worker often works alone both with or without directions from supervisor.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
1. Equipment typically used in the performance of office duties include telephone, computer keyboard, computer printer, photocopy machine, facsimile machine, and calculator.
2. Materials and products handled in the course of performing essential duties include files, forms, reports, various other paperwork, and a wide variety of basic office supplies.
Salary : $52,707 - $82,867
