Substance Abuse Technician Lead will perform professional level duties and functions associated with treatment of substance abuse (drugs and alcohol). Provide comprehensive detoxification and treatment services to clients. Provide lead instruction to staff as needed and serve as trainer.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Obtain relevant information about clients through interview, assessment, and case history; assist and support clients through addiction detoxification and recovery; observe, intervene and report client adherence to program goals and objectives.
2. Work in conjunction with other department staff to administer scheduled program curriculum and other activities utilized for treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse.
3. Process new clients, i.e., issuance of clothing, orientation to the rules of facilities and assist clients with daily activities, events, and informational literature.
4. Transport clients to appointments and other service locations outside of assigned program.
5. Prepare and maintain statistical reports, case histories, maintain progress notes and document behavioral incidents through observation of clients and maintain confidential records.
6. Participate in reviews of job performance and adhere to recommended measures for change.
7. Maintain security, order, and discipline to prevent disturbances and ensure the safety of residents, staff and community.
8. Assign, supervise and train personnel, as needed; serve as shift lead to ensure shifts are fully staffed and to provide other supervisory support.
9. Maintain current knowledge base on counseling issues regarding substance abuse through conferences, educational training and networking with other agencies or groups.
10. Conduct and participate with training and staff development programs; assist in training and monitor staff facilitating groups.
11. Assure for appropriate shift transition to include client count, equipment and keys, staffing and required documentation.
12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED, and four (4) years of work experience in substance abuse, healthcare, law enforcement, emergency management or related field. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination.
2. Pursuant to the criminal history screening for Caregivers Act, Section 29-17-1 through Section 29-17-5 NMSA 1978, new hires at the Bernalillo County Behavioral Health Services facility will be required to complete a caregiver criminal history screening for all caregivers. Conviction of a disqualifying condition is cause for termination or sufficient reason not to hire if applicant has a disqualifying condition on their record at time of application.
3. Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver’s license while employed in this position.
4. Employee may be required to work different shifts and program reassignments.
5. May be required to work mandated overtime as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Essential job duties are performed indoors in climate-controlled environment.
2. Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled floor.
3. Works alone primarily, with or without directions. Works with groups and with a select team at times.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
1. Telephone, typewriter, calculator, computer, fax machine, and copy machine are used in performance of essential job duties.
2. Various forms of paperwork are handled in performance of essential job duties.
