Position:          The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction

 

Supervisor:     Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Leadership

 

General Job Description:

 

The Executive Director of Curriculum will be a critical part of the district’s leadership team and is responsible for executing the district’s strategic plan in support of instructional curriculum needs and pathways for all students to develop the knowledge and skills needed for high-demand, high-value careers. Reporting to, and in collaboration with, the Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Leadership, this position will facilitate the planning, development or expansion, and implementation of K-12 curriculum and CTE offerings from elementary through high school. Facilitate the design, integration, implementation and evaluation of all instructional programming that informs Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title VI, Instructional Materials Annual report,  FAEA programs, District Literacy Plan, and Portrait of a Graduate within the District in accordance with federal regulations and District policy.  Lead in the review and revision of the District curriculum, ensuring textbooks and high quality instructional materials are aligned with the instructional vision and strategic plan. Coordinate. Support the needs assessment for professional development and, in coordination with the Deputy Superintendent of Instructional Leadership,  the implementation of a district wide professional development plan.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Oversee System Improvement: Spearhead the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes. Work closely with the senior management team to create, implement, and roll out plans for instructional processes, internal infrastructures, reporting systems and district policies designed to foster student growth and learning. Build efficiencies within the district, including providing training support for school staff of newly adopted instructional materials. Ensure that accurate and timely assessment and data reports are disseminated to schools and district administration. Establish systems and routines to monitor progress against goals and opportunities to adjust in response to formative data and provide guidance to school leaders and relevant personnel for interpreting and acting in response to the data.

 

  1. Effectively Engage with Stakeholders and Colleagues: Establish and maintain strong, collaborative, and candid relationships with district and community stakeholders, families, workforce partners, as well as, state, local, and Tribal Leaders. Effectively apply change management theory and strategy with a wide range of diverse stakeholders, both internally and externally to plan, implement, and shift the emphasis from individual classroom instruction and CTE programs to aligned K-12, Layer I instruction, Layer II instruction, Layer III instruction, and CTE pathways. Model collaborative leadership with colleagues to ensure alignment and integration of services. Model collaborative leadership with other members of the Superintendent’s cabinet to ensure alignment and integration of all district functions. Attend all school board meetings and report on any matters as requested by the Superintendent. .

 

  1. Oversee Implementation of Strategic Plan: Articulate a strategy for integrating and aligning all Layer 1, II, and III instructional materials while incorporating a coherent CTE instructional pathways from elementary through high school to advance the district’s strategic plan. Incorporate the district identified high quality instructional materials to align with standards driven instruction within these pathways. Ensure equitable implementation of the high quality instructional materials through a culturally responsive approach, the pacing guides, MLSS plan, Portrait of a Graduate, and identified district initiatives to ensure equitable access in all classrooms.

 

  1. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement: . In partnership with their supervisor and alignment with the Strategic Plan, establish systems and routines to monitor progress against goals and opportunities to adjust in response to formative data and provide guidance to school leaders and relevant personnel for interpreting and acting in response to the data. Establish goals and metrics for all district academic programs and curriculum, including CTE programs. Establishes an office-wide expectation of data-driven management and decision-making by designing and implementing systems and routines to set and monitor progress against challenging and realistic goals for growth, performance, and efficiency. Lead a coordinated effort to support school and district leaders to leverage assessment data to drive instructional strategy across all grade levels and content areas.

 

 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Communicate effectively with all District personnel and agencies involved in providing instructional or support services.
  2. Lead in the review, revision, and adoption of the District curriculum, ensuring textbooks and instructional materials are aligned with the curriculum. 
  3. Seek and disseminate information of successful research-based instructional programs.
  4. Provide support for schools when developing school improvement/school-wide plans.
  5. Coordinate work with school staff and principals to create, assess, and reevaluate Instructional Standards.
  6. Seek and disseminate professional development opportunities aligned with school improvement plans and the Professional Development Framework and, to the extent feasible, provide access to funding for justifiable training needs.
  7. Create, Lead, and monitor the District Literacy Plan implementation.
  8. Support the completion of the Comparability Report.
  9. Support the completion of the Instructional Materials Report.
  10. Facilitate the design, integration, implementation and evaluation of all Title I, Title II, Title III & Title VI instructional programs within the District in accordance with federal regulations and District policy.
  11. Ensure through in-service training and site visitations that adequate documentation of Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title VI project activities (including summer and extended-day sessions) is maintained according to the regulations and District-level procedures at all sites and in the Curriculum and Instruction Department.
  12. Support the completion of the annual evaluations for Title I, Title II. Title III, and Title VI.
  13. Report to the Board of Education, parent organizations and State Department of Education Office as requested.
  14. Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local, state and federal laws.
  15. Demonstrate success in exercising good judgment, insight, self-awareness, integrity, and cultural responsiveness .
  16. Perform all other related duties/functions as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Superintendent.

 

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 All staff as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

 

 

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Educational Administration.
  2. Valid New Mexico PED Administrator’s license.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
  4. Must be able to pass employment verification and background check

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Five years of experience working with Native American and/or Hispanic populations.
  2. Three years of experience in school or public administration of experience as an effective Principal.
  3. Classroom teaching experience serving Native American and/or Hispanic students in an integrated setting.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

 

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

 

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air-quality.  Job responsibilities require occasional weekends and after hours. Travel to facilities throughout the district is integral to the job.

 

Terms of Employment:

237 Days
